what would happen if you put on headers but no MILiminators? I don't think I will be putting them on myself... probably have a shop do it. I'm pretty sure they won't put on the mil's so will I be able to get it home to do it myself?

Search the forums people. A similar question was asked here less than two weeks ago.

And it will not run like poo poo. :nonono:

Turn it off with a PCM tune or install mileliminators. Make sure the bungs are there for you to install the lower O2 sensors and Mils. If no bungs and you need to install mils, you have to fabricate the bungs yourself.

Thanks Guys... I read that post a couple weeks ago but was a little confused at the differing answers... thought maybe someone would chime in and be 100% on the issue. Like this..."When I did it..."

"When I did it," I added headers when I did my 3L swap. Very easy on an engine stand. When we pulled the engine, one of my secondary o2 sensors got beat up and bent. I made the MIL eliminators with parts from Radio Shack(after I bought some crap ones of Ebay:mad: ) and installed them.

My MILs worked fine, but since my one o2 sensor doesn't work fine, I get a check engine light sometimes and then sometimes it goes off. It is only for the o2 sensor that was damaged, and once replaced, I imagine that my CEL will disappear.

To reaffirm, headers installed without MILs will throw a CEL, but WILL NOT change the way the engine performs.

CEL for secondary O2 (or EGR) causes soft limp mode. It will mean flatline timing (no IMRC adder, multipliers, or scalars - i.e. ~20 degrees max) and it will richen the fuel trim by 5-10%. (stock WOT trim is already in the 11 to 1 range :blackeye: ) That's fuel trim and not fuel flow btw...

I put on the headers back in May, i think, and i did not put the MILiminators on and i have never got a CEL since i did it. The car did run really bad for about a week, then it ran great and has been ever since. I check the codes every now and then just to make sure, and i have never got one.

Your CEL should be there constantly...

I think LUCA said her car didn't need MIL eliminators with the header install. Said the car ran perfect and had no CEL.

Also Tourige, he said he checked for codes and nothing came up. There could be soft codes that don't trip the CEL, but can still be detected with a scan tool.

That's interesting. I know that sometimes it takes a long time for the cat monitor to run. It is the last monitor to run and even after all the rest have been completed, driving conditions must be right or it won't happen.

Is it possible that the cat monitor was turned off at the factory on certain tune codes?

Remove Fuse 11 (KAM fuse) and you will never have a CEL code stored. The car will not run through its OBD II cycle and will probably run "cold" or crappy all the time. Look for low fuel mileage too.

Sometimes, if the fuse holder is loose, the CEL code will also not be stored (or will be intermittent due to losing its connection every now and then).
