Mullet Ride anyone? (no 56k)

Who makes a hemi-style head for a chevy small block, please post a link.

His block will support about 500hp, i don't know if i'd call 500hp weak though, that'll be plenty.

All his internals are already forged parts. His rotating assembly is balanced to within .25 of a gram.

As far as cast iron blocks being weak, i'm not entirely sure about that one. Nascar's use cast iron blocks and push like 750hp and rev out to like 9 grand.

Aluminum blocks are lighter, but still a casted block.

We recently met a guy that was running at least 500RWHP on his cast iron block, soon he hope to push 1200+ on that same block.

As far as that billet aluminum block, how do you have water jackets for cooling without casting the block? Mind power?

agreed. a cast iron block is plenty strong enough. the weakness comes into the design, read: ford 302 2-bolt weak block that cracks up the middle. i mean, look at what a diesel block is capable of handling? besides the fact that the cast iron material itself is stronger than the cast aluminum.

^true, the problem really becomes pronounced when the overbore is too extreme and/or rotating assembly is not balanced properly. Mix that deadly poison with something less than a four bolt main and vibrations will shake the block enough to crack it. A quality block that has been fluxed for cracks with quality internals will make you plenty happy for a long time.

where do u get the idea that cast iron blocks are weak

most ppl with lsx motors (aluminum block) that want lots of horsepower switch to 6.0 LQ4 (iron block iron heads) or LQ9 (iron block aluminum heads) from the trucks just for durability with high HP (with heads of choice)

i know ppl with over 800rwhp (~1000 motor) iron block motors showing absolutley no problems under high revs.

alot of it depends on parts and how well the motor is built also the builder...

also u dont really need hemisperical heads.......AFR makes really nice quality heads that make GREAT power

and for SB1 they arent a whole lot of money

UPDATES:

So it's been awhile, i know, and even these are old.

The car is once again getting closer, exhaust is done, wheels are in (Thanks Steve) still a few odds and ends, hood should be done this weekend, next time i'm home we're having a photo shoot.

LOTS OF PICS COMING....

Here are some of the exhaust before it was coated.

The exhaust is completely hand made and there is over a month of work into it. the solid pipe side has mufflers within the piping and the gap is for a cut out.

he changed for a couple reasons, those being the fact that the wheels were just too heavy and he pretty much hates the black wheel with a polished lip because it's so played out. when he first bought those wheels it wasn't as big a trend but now it's everywhere and he wanted something else.

<<singing Peter Griffin voice>> "My God, that car is freakin' sweeeeeeet!"

I have though numerous times about nabbing an LS1 Camaro as a summer car -- decent gas mileage on the highway, big hatch for the trips to Home Depot, and it can be had with T-roofs. The only issue would be my buddies calling me Gino every time they saw me.

I liked the black too but the lip on the new ones is hot. Maybe the new ones painted black? Wish GM had a generation of that body with smoother tails. Those look so busy.

considering the cost of those wheels they're staying that way haha, the hood will have the same color (like the old hood had a gunmetal center) so it will help to accent the wheels a little better. He wanted to go with a satin finish this time around.

He tore out his old axle to put the 3rd gen axle back in so he could run more dish in the rear, once we got the wheels on we found that there could have been more dish on the wheel, but they still look damn good. i love dish.

god I love this car...I like the black centers better too. I understand the "played out" but nowhere is it played out on this era of car...completely different than the boy racers

Love it!

Question: Who makes the headlights, where can you get them, do they require any special fitment?

Thanks.
