My vintage Volvo project

Don't forget that I tune SU's every day @ work ... they're actually very easy to get tuned & they stay in tune just as well as any Weber . Plus they're very simple - especially when you've been tuning 'em for 20 years , lol :D ! My last Volvo had a Weber carb & it worked fine , but I think I'll ride the SU's on this one , 'cause they'll work till I hot up the engine a bit . Then all bets are off ...

Check out KustomShop.com

I've used their primers and paints on a few friends "rat rod" projects. They have a single stage flat paint that has UV protectant added. It's cheap and does the job perfect. You can usually find some of their products on EBay even cheaper. I'm Sherwin Williams and House Of Kolors certified, and I never thought I'd say this...... but this is my FAVORITE brand of paint to work with. Cheap, durable, easy to work with and sooooo many options it's crazy. I want to try their Hot Rod Flatz w/ pearl or flake already added. THAT is Kustom

Any vintage speed boat parts going into her?? Many used old Volvo 4 poppers and Volvo outdrives...... so it's damn near OEM IMO lol

I'va actually checked out some of their paints - cool stuff . I like the pearl-added stuff , pretty interesting . This one will be rattle-can satin this time around ... just something I kinda want to do :) .

No outboard stuff goin' in , although it'd be an interesting touch to add something on/in there somewhere ;) .

I finally found the old girl in the parking lot at the supermarket! Apparently this really nice elderly lady owns it. I talked with her for a few minutes about it. Apparently it is all original except the hood, which was replaced YEARS ago. It has never been driven in the snow! It originally came from California. Unfortunately it was raining out and I didn't get many good pictures (I was using my phone :) ). I had only snapped four pics and then I had come back outside to snap more and the owner was there and I wouldn't want to offend her or anything, ya know? What's even cooler, is that she has ANOTHER. Same model and everything, she said! I guess she is having the floor replaced because it HAD been driven in the snow, and was gettin a lil beat up. Enjoy!

Wow - your phone takes good pics . Thanks a lot . I'd love to have a nice 122 like hers - looks in really good shape . My '68 122 was in nice shape like that (had very low miles) , but the paint was poop :( . This one's in decent shape , but not perfect by any means - hence the rat rod treatment ;) .
If ya see her again , tell her thanks from me for taking the time to chat with ya & letting you take pics for me .

No WAY!!!! That was my mom's first car back in the early seventies!!! I've still got pictures of her leaning up against hers! She had a black one. NICE FIND!!!!

If you want a cheap engine to replace that old timer, check out the old MG engines or N/A Zetec powerplants.

There's no way I'd put an MG engine in my Volvo :nonono: !! An old Volvo plant is WAAAAAAY more reliable & can put down more muscle with that reliability too . I like the idea of the Zetec engine though . My friend has a worked Zetec w/Webers in a Lotus 7 clone that's up around 200 ponies now ... it's hella fast . A 122 Volvo is a bit heavier than a Lotus 7 , but it'd still be nice to have 200 hp ;) .

i almost flipped when my father in law told me he saw 1200hp crate ecotecs in a catalog at his dealership.
he is the lead tech at a dealer in Nh.

You know, you could always do an LS1 swap....

Don't worrk , Elky - I'd LOVE to have a 1200 hp Volvo 122  ... but I don't have the money/time/money/energy/money to do the swap :( . Doing this car sorta half-finished (with the rat-rod theme) is gonna work on me , believe it . I'm a finished detail kinda guy . I'm gonna feel like an OCD sufferer at a ticker-tape parade when it's "done" !

Parts aren't that bad to come across , as far as old foreign cars go . Some bits might be a bit pricey , but can be had . "Keep 'em running" parts are fairly cheap though :) .

If I do a motor swap in it (highly unlikely) , it'll most likely be a zetec swap .

one of these days i am going to build a rat-rust-rod.
no fenders, big motor, no roof, channeled, super thin wide whites....

funny sighting the other day on the highway.
came up on a car carrier with some newer cars like cobalts and i think a toyota or two, and on teh bottom was a rat rod!
kinda like this one....
