i have a 2000 svt with 34,000 miles at 29,000 miles the motor spun a rod bearing the dealer put a new motor in the car but they also detuned the car through the computer i found a 2000 svt with 70,000 that never had anything done to the computer the numbers on both computers are the same i installed the other computer and the car won't start not even turn over like it has a dead battery and the little red light on the dash flashes real fast anyone know what the problem could be i would appreciate it.

the problem is that the new computer requires the proper ignition key. the contour computer has a system commonly known as PATS. when you turn the key, a microchip in the key relays an encoded RF signal to a receiver in the ignition switch which then compares the code to the one embedded in the computer, if the codes do not match, the car does not start. you need a key programed to match the computer.

their might be a way to program the computer to accept the keys you have, but I can not remember for sure at the moment, hopefully someone else can answer for certain, otherwise you will be dragging the car into the dealership so they can make you new keys (~$25 ea.)

You have a PATS system problem because you swapped computers. Starting in at least 99, all PATS functions are in the PCM. When tripped, it disables the starter (among other things) and makes the red LED flash rapidly.

Only the dealer can fix this. Perhaps a well-equipped locksmith, but I'm not certain.

You will need to have the new computer pogrammed to your current keys. Should take less than 1 hour. There is no need to cut and program new keys into the system, that's just overdoing it.
