Hey everyone, I'm looking for new car ideas.

I was thinking of buying another Contour, but just the 4cyl or 6 and adding on the SVT Body Kit and wheels. At least a 5 speed. That way my insurance will be cheap and it'll at least look like an svt and maybe later on add the "go" but not for now.

Any ideas?

a tempo. i loved my old one. it was a '93 and got great gas mileage. the best part was that it could barely hit 70

well it could but not without sounding like it was gonna detonate

just get something nice and soft and small and slow

I used to have a 93 VW Fox it was freakin' sweet. Had more ground clearance than a truck! Little 5 speed 1.8L slow as hell! Couldn't top 80 going DOWN HILL haha.

My buddy has a 94 Mercury Topaz in super nice shape..

dont buy another contour, they may be cheap and etc but dont

IMO, get a corolla or a civic, better mpg, and you save more gas $$

this coming out of a person who upgraded from an SVT to a G-coupe and pays $60 at the pump to fill my car up
Im really feeling the hurt lately, but dammit I love my coupe

Only $120 to fill up the truck. So I don't see a problem with what you have. :)

And find another tour if you can. A corolla or civic is going to cost about 5x more to buy and I would think it would be easier to pay an extra $1 in in the difference in gas milage. Not only that, but your insurance would be much cheaper as well.

yea but the civic or corolla will outlast the contour by far in the future

I am up to 200K miles on my 95 with no major engine problems. Just needs other "regualar tune up stuff" i.e. shocks, wheel bearing etc. and haven't there been several people on this board who went to a corolla and then went back to a tour or some sort (i.e. Alias and Five-Oh).

What's this mumbo jumbo in this thread about Corollas and Civics? They're some of the most boring automobiles ever manufactured. If you need an inexpensive car that's good on gas, snag a Focus. At least you won't fall asleep at the wheel from boredom, as in the Corolla and Civic.

LMAO thats soo true. Driving a car is supposed to be fun, not some boring ride where you want to kill yourself every minute. I also don't think anyone constantly thinks of their gas mileage. Oh, I drive a civic and get XX mpg. It doesn't really what car you get, you're going to drive it anyway, no matter how much gas prices are or mpg, although mpg does have a lot of influence. I would rather have a fun car to drive thats gets avg. mpg than have a boring ass car. period.

I can't afford a Focus. I want something like a Grand or under. Something i can put basic insurance on..

Here's the idea I just had.. find out if my SVT motor will swap into a 1994 Mercury Topaz, buy my friend's off him, and swap the motors. That way I'll have a Topaz, with an SVT motor and transmission in it with only 74k miles. Just waiting for a PM from Aircougar...

SLAABs are very reliable cars..but very expensive to fix!
we had cars with over 200K coming into the shop all the time.
