New Center Console...

Looks good a few too many cup holders for me if there are drinks in my car they have screw on lids, that just me.

I moved my HVAC controls to a pre-98 console, looks a lot cleaner than the controls being by the e-brake. I only had to extend 4 wires (fan control) and nothing else I did however cut a small channel in the bottom of the dash trim so the wires would not be tight. It's all covered by the pre-98 console anyway. I'm going to do a little bit of fiberglass work to mine once I get to Arizona it's been too cold here. Here's a pic of mine sorry it's so out of focus.

Thanks it was a lot of work to get it to look good but well worth it. That deck was a life saver during the 3,000 mile road trip I was just on if I wasn't driving I could kick back and watch a movie, lol.

ive wanted to do something like that. i like the controls in the center console under the armrest. i travel accross the pond frequently and really want to get the climate control out of a mondy and put that in but dont know what i need. it would solve my HVAC problem as id set it where i want and no need for adjustment

Should have wrapped the wires in electrical tape so they didn't "peak" out between the two pieces of trim.

The interior design of the '98 and later Contours is the way to go. It's roomier, and looks the part, as it eschews the larger console. When paired with the upgraded cupholder setup, you can have a beverage come along for the ride with ease.

Tom -- if you drink out of aluminum cans or something similarly sized, I expect you'll be even more impressed with the performance of your Taurus cupholders. Nice work.

x2 :)

I love the 98+ center console combiner with updated cupholder.

No hate to the pre-98 consoles, I just prefer 98+

Your idea is the easiest way to do it. I remember steeda telling me when he built it that he hates pre-98 consoles, thats why the Hvac was moved. good cupholders are retained

yes i do like the 98+ updated cupholders but i had a set and cannot get another one for a decent price...

so this was my fix. and i like the lines of the pre 98 more. it just looks more sleek to me. i wish i know how to fiberglass because i have some pretty damn good ideas for different console setups for this car. one includes a better version of the post 98 setup. there is so much wasted space with that setup. as well as the pre 98. oh the storage possibilities to be had.

it would include at least one flip down cupholder in the back and some flip out ones made of metal!

By the way thank you to all who have commented, constructive criticism or complimentary.

I just got my updated cupholder for 20 shipped, and someone else was selling 2 for 25 a piece, there not that hard to come by.

Doing fiberglass work really isn't that hard just takes patience really. Go to your local hardware store buy some resin, hardener, metal tape and fiberglass cloth. It's not expensive stuff. Just play around with it honestly it's not really that hard.

I fix motorcycle farings for my friends all the time saves them a ton of money and they kick me a few dollars for my time.

Just think once you get good at it you can make literally anything that comes in your mind...with time and practice.

That is the exact setup I wanna do! I'm curious to see mow much work it was to finish the upper console DIN to fit the screen. Also, do you find the shifter to be on the way of the HVAC controls?
And last thing, is your screen a 1 DIN radio with the screen opened, or a real 2 DIN setup?

Mine is a real 2 din setup (Kenwood DDX-7019) I have no issues with adjusting the Hvac controls with the car in any gear I do have a short throw shifter which I'm sure helps. It really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be trimming the panel to get the deck to fit it's one of those things that once you start take your time. I'll be doing some work to my center console soon really clean everything up.
