well it seems that the better way to have approached this is to have stated up front that you work at a body shop and said that repainting oem is cheaper then custom or other types of paint. But instead you state as solid fact that it shold only cost 2k to have a car repainted.
Well when I was shopping around for prices I went to about 5 different shops and I was always quoted around 4k for a repaint. Only place I found with prices listed on line for anything less was at Macco and there was no ****ing way I was letting macco paint my car ...
That's also true. A good bodyshop will repaint and it will look great, no swirl marks, and probably have a lifetime warranty.sure if you are looking for a cheaper paint job to sell a car or one for a few years ... mine is going to last alot longer then that ....
Maybe things are just cheaper in my area, or because I know people I get a better deal. Maaco sucks, yes, but if you are desperate and do all the right prep work, they can do a decent job. 4k is really steep sounding, maybe that's just to me. If a car is flawless and you just want a respray, it really shouldn't be all that expensive. Yet, when they need to do alot of sanding, dent repair, and a lot of R+R then of course it goes up. At 85 bucks an hour for a paint tech, I really wouldn't be suprised. Paint alone is 600 dollars, and the cost to get rid of it is somewhere around 300. Don't forget to pay a regular body tech 35 bucks an hour, and then still make a profit.. yeah it's gonna be pricey. Still, 2-3k is the max I would expect to pay to just respray.
