It's not really wrong in a RWD car.
Yea, the wrong part is having a horizontally mounted engine.

what is the reason for the larger flywheel?
When you said LS motor I thought you meant LSx SBC for a minute
If I were you I'd go with a V8 for this (either al. LSx Chevy or 302 SBF)-- more power, reliability and not a real wt. difference.

In order to mount the starter next to the block you have to space it out away from the block to get clearance. I will be sending it to a machine shop to take off the extra weight of the metal because that will hurt the performance some. Joey
Well a little update we just received the T5 boy is that thing light too makes our mtx57 feel like bricks. We detoured a little from the original motors I sent back the LS motor it was useless for the swap beside the fact I go to get pics and ideas from it. I ordered a 1999 taurus split port motor because it has all the accessories in the front of the motor plus the valve cover is slimmer giving me more room for the turbo kit and fans. I don't recall anyone ever dynoing a split port 3 liter motor with SVT cams yet so we will see if the motor does comparable to the 04's if so we have a perfect swap to do it with. We have a low 04 mileage motor if the bottom end of the 1999 3 liter is to weak for boost. I will post pics today soon Joey
Joey
Ive done a split port swap with SVT casm before. I have some pics of it on my other computer if you want them. I used the 99 3L heads which I still have that have mild port work. I have since sold the cams. I cut off the waterpump driven cam and leveled it insuring clearance and balancing just inside the head. Let me know if you want the pics.

Joey I did but I only got like 180fwhp i believe. I have to look up the dyno sheet if I still have it.
Yes, Jim's car was also a split port but it did not use the SVT cams.
not really it was a baseline...
I need to Pm you about to see what that guy wants to do with the headers he has on his 240.
I did not realize the Contour flywheel was too small to fit a starter against the block, I need to take note of that. Any reason for going to a chevy flywheel instead of something like a Mustang flywheel (and starter if gear pitch is different)?
Ford uses a 10 spline input shaft, Chevy uses a 26 spline.
What are your plans for an oil pan and pick up tube? LS oil pan and pickup tube, custom made parts, etc...
Also, I see you are planning on using a T5; has there been any thoughts given toward plans to use an Astro A-5 or G-Force Gear set or keeping it under 250-300 ft-lbs and 300-350HP?
Additionally, does it work out that the input shaft of the T5 fits the pilot bearing of a Taurus motor or does the proper pilot bearing fit the crank? And will the input shaft of the T5 prove long enough to seat properly in a pilot bearing with the bell-housing spaced further from the block? (unlike the MTX75 the T5 will require the pilot bearing).
Finally, I have yet to see an LS engine in person, so I was wondering if there are any major differences between the LS block and the standard 3L block?
I'm not sure I even know what to say.Any Thoughts?
I only ask because these are the main hang-up points that I have come up with over the past year while thinking about what it would take to put a Duratec into my Mustang, but I do not have a block at my disposal, so my work has all been hypothetical and based on memory.
