Now is it clutch chatter or "gear roll over noise"?

Ps, I'm sure most/all of us are running royal purple syncromax fluid. I think that's the reason why.

I am and have the same noise, LUK clutch and also with the F1 setup I ran for a short time. However the noise was there prior to my 3L swap and that would have been whatever fluid Ford put in, maybe ATF?

My trans was inspected when the Torsen was installed too, it had 24k~ miles at the time.

I do have a slight noise when starting out slowly in first gear, it's gone before I need to shift though.

I thought gear rollover noise was only with the trans in neutral. Mine was so bad I had to put my foot on the clutch if I was ordering food at the drive thru. Engine is currently out of the car so I will see if it goes away with the LUK clutch when it goes back in. I always thought it was the spec clutch making the noise.

Here is a video that i took tonight, just in the driveway sitting still. You can hear when i push in the clutch that the noise goes away. I'll try to get a driving video tomorrow.

The noise is normal. with the clutch engaged and the transaxle in neutral the input shaft is rotating with the engine at the same speed.

It's gear rollover noise. Mine's done it since the day I bought it.

Clutch "chatter" is a vibration felt through the pedal on engagement.

As far as I remember, it was something to do with the springs in the clutch disc or pressure plate not being as heavy as stock. IIRC, spec used a "stock" modified pressure plate. Even with a luk "stock" replacement, it's unlikely that the hardware exactly meets oem specs. But either way, it was something to do with the springs not being as heavy and so allowing chatter/noise to resonate. It's perfectly normal but it isn't gear rollover.

In both my my Cougar and my 98 SE I have a pretty good chatter (not clutch, just sound from trans) under load normally at sort of lower RPMs. Nothing at idle, ever, though. Cougar is 3L hybrid, svt flywheel, Sachs superset clutch, and rod shift trans with quaife. Contour is all stock, not even sure what clutch is in it. Cougar is much more pronounced as well. Pretty sure neither car makes sound during deceleration either.
