Odd No Start

My engine never dies; it doesn't start. Even when it had intermittent start problems, it never, ever, died on me. That's why I think it's not a grounding cable (that, and we've checked all them 3 times now).

My next step is to figure out why my pats light doesn't work, and probably then to get the car over to Ford. Maybe I can trick it into starting one last time....

It's the PATS unit. I got the light hooked back up correctly (yikes... I don't know what the previous owner was thinking); when you turn the key, the light flashes continuously for one minute, then doesn't flash at all. The closest thing in the manual to this says it will flash intermittently after one minute of continuous flashing, and it means the key is not recognized or there's a malfunction. Either way, I'll let Ford put it on their NGS on Friday and see what's up. I'll post results in case anyone else has this problem.

My Y2k Csvt Just Up And Dies On Me Yesterday. I Had Been Having A Small Problem With The Car Geeking Out For 3-5 Seconds And It Would Either Be Fine After That Or Stall Out.

So Yesterday The Car Dies On Me While Sitting At A Light , I Crank It Is Fires Then Dies Out Again, Then I Turn The Key And Nothing. Pulled The Battery Terinaml Off The Reset The Ecu And That Didn't Work . Pulled Out The Superchip. I Heard A " Bird Chrip Sound Coming From The Ecu Area " No Luck

Towed To Svt Certified Ford Dealer

Turned Out To Be The Pats System The Chip Inside The Key Messed Up Or The Transponder In The Ignition Colum And The Fix Is:

Two New Keys
Programed To The Pats System
Rplace Transponder In The Ignition Colum
Labor And All
$250

Worked For Me.

Holy ****, they're quoting me $450 for the same exact labor! Can you scan your invoice for me? Or at least post up the price breakdown?

OK..... wtf.

Ford says my "module" won't accept a new transciever because it's "full". Also, it can't be replaced because the part is no longer made, or stocked.

Seriously; slit my wrists, somebody. But this doesn't even make sense.... I know PATS is in the the PCM, but '98s have an external module. Is that what he's referring to? And I thought they could clear codes; he says they can't.

Wtf Two Week Later I Walk Out To The Car For Lunch And No Start After Four More Attempts And Nothing I Get It To Turn Over But It Will Not Fire. I Hear The Fuel Pump Click When I First Turn The Key In The Ignition. Wtf. Back To The Dealer It Goes....

I started a follow-up thread to this... I ended up replacing the ENTIRE PATS system (cylinder, key, transponder, box) with a functioning one pulled from a CEG'rs car. Fixed that problem.
