it was a beautyfull day today ... came home opened a beer .. just a wonderful afternoon

the wifey comes home and says the new SVT needed gas (only 2 tanks since i picked it up Christmas time)

i get in .. start the car .. CHECK ENGINE .. no freaking way

SO .. i fill tank and drive it home to put on the reader just to find P1131, P0133

sigh - this should almost be under general discussion .. as i know dam well where this is going

the svt is a 99 .. with 93k (not miles .. Kilometers) and is bone stock all original under the hood

it just pased an E-Test and starts / runs perfectly all around good car so far

other than the weather changing severly over the last 7 days nothing else has been messed with

should i just break down and order a couple o2 sensors?

If those were the only codes that you got, its likely to be the o2 sensor(s).
and by E-test are you talking about emissions?

I would replace the sensor. Thats it upstream sensor on the rear of the engine by the firewall. Can be a total pita to change. Your going to want to unbolt the coil pack and move it out of the way. You might or might not need to the unclip the mega fuse wiring so it will move forward and back so you can get your hand down in there. Unplug the sensor put a o2 sensor socket on it and swap it out. be sure to put some anti-seize on the threads of the new sensor. Rockauto.com has motorcraft sensors for $36 cad

yes e-test is emissions test

Are the Rockauto sensors simple plug and play type deal?

I want to do wires and plugs once the weather breaks so when that happens ill get my hands dirty and do the sensor at the same time

Anyone have issues / feedback on the Boch + 4's plugs? .. i put them in my 98 last year and they sem good but my gas milage is kinda crappy ..

So im about to place an order on RockAuto for the Motorcraft O2 Sensor ...

now my question is am i ordering the correct one

"MOTORCRAFT Part # DY1084

it doesnt say upstream .. but it does say rear ..

can someone confirm that this is the right one for the codes that im seeing?

thanks as always

depends on the build date of your car. sticker should be on the drivers side doorjamb by the stiker bolt.

wow, am i glad now that i double checked before clicking submit

so i was looking at the O2 sensors under the 98 model year (as i was also looking for an Intake Manifold Gasket for my 98)

with that said im looking for the rear 02 sensor on my 99 (build date 04/99) so this should be the ticket

does anyone see anything wrong with my logic .. or lack thereof :)

P1131Lack of Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor Switch - Sensor Indicates Lean - Bank No. 1

time for a new sensor.

P0133 02 Sensor Circuit Slow Response (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
Same sensor as above.

As for the sensor I believe your upstream sensors should have square plugs. So if the photo is accurate you could use that to help pick the correct sensor.

as for the +4 plugs, typically they don't work well in this engine. Always suggested to stick OEM or use Autolite plugs. Make sure you change the plugs and wires at the same time.

just wanted to update everyone

I ordered the motorcraft (square) O2 sensor from Rockauto so now im on the hunt for an O2 socket wrench

im currently sitting on new plugs and wires . .so when this O2 sensor shows up ill be getting my hands dirty right away

any suggestions on where to get the socket from .. and anyone know what size im looking for (seeing that this sensor is square does that throw a wrench in my plans?)

SOLVED
- with the correct sensor from rockauto
- with the correct o2 sensor socket (used the offset one)
- with a couple beers and a few f-bombs

no more CEL .. runs good .. idles good .. just got a tank of gas and put 50k on it running around in the heat yesterday

ill attach some pics late of what i used / results .. but one thing for sure is if you want to do this .. make sure you take your time and pull off the coil pack and give yourself a good look at it

thanks to everyone for the support (as always)
