Does anyone know about how much it would cost to get a pair of side skirts painted from black to silver? Or could i do it myself?

Since they're relatively small...I'd say give it a shot after reading up on it. It'd make for some good practice in my opinion.

Easy to do yourself. sand with 300 grit, then follow by wet sanding with 600. Get BullDog adhesion promoter, spray let dry, then prime with a filling primer, wet sand again with 600. spray with the silver, lightly wet sand with 600 again, spray silver again, lightly wet sand with 600 again, spray clear coat, wet sand lightly, spray clear again, wet sand again lighlty, use rubbing compound, then polishing compund or finishing glaze, then wax. Will look like factory.

Just make sure you use a good mineral base cleanr between every time you paint.

You can match the color to the color you want in a spray can along with buying the adhesion promoter from Levine automotive. Just supply the paint code you want.

I had one done and they charged 125 bucks. I've since done my mirko by myself and its really not that hard. The steps above will give you a good result. I used the duplicolor silver frost paint from kragen to do mine and its a good match.

But i've never really painted before and do i need to use a paint gun and compressor and stuff of will silver frost in a can work? haha

Just get rattle cans from your local auto store. Its not that hard, just remember to use sweeping strokes, and stop spraying inbetween strokes so that you don't get runs. Practice with the primer and make sure you sand off all the bumps and runs (hopefully not too many) really well before you start on the top coat. Take your time, sand between coats and you should be fine. Do many thin coats rather than a couple of thick coats to get a really nice smooth even finish.

Is it basically the same for the chrome grill oval? i want to paint that black and put some cool black mesh in it too.

From what I've seen with the oval, you should dip it in some sort of acid to remove the chrome. Do a search for that, I'm not that familiar with it.

I have 2 silver side skirts in great shape. Could possibly trade for your black skirts....?...... Where are you located ?

I don't have the skirts but i was just wondering because it is almost impossible to find silver skirts for sale. There always black!

As I oulined earlier, I did my sons 240SX skirts with spray cans and the metod I provided in an earlier post. They came out like a pro job with a spray gun. It's all in the application preparation, and don't be in a hurry. I f you never used spray can before just be very conservatiive and do more thin coats than a couple of thick coats.

I painted mine (black) - I have no experience/expertise in painting - used spray cans.

It was easier than I expected and turned out well.

By the way, can anyone tell me where I can buy one of those little jack stand spacers/slots on the skirts?

I don't know the proper name for them, but I'm missing one....

They are called jack point covers. You can get them from teamfordparts.com or probably any dealer, I think they were about 30 bucks or something like that.

I lightly scuffed mine with a scotch pad, wiped them down and sprayed two coats of silver and one coat of clear. Installed on the car less than an hour later. The whole process took less that 3 hours. It was the morning of a local meet and I really wanted to get them done. Nobody even noticed that they weren't stock.
