Pilot Bushing!!!???

anyone notice that a pilot bushing has to be removed from the crank??? i had to. it nearly destroyed the block. no damage was found but if we hadnt stopped when the transmission bound up bolting it to the engine probably would have split the case. anyone have comments on this? i never saw this in any reading ive done. will hopefully have picture later.

wow never saw it anywhere. oh well its out and the engine is in the car as of an hour ago! wont run till next week but its in and for anyone who is installing for the first time they go in a lot easier than they come out.
 
I know a guy that split his brand new Escape oilpan & broke an ear off of his TH trans before he found it. Thats what always makes me remember!

Interesting. Usually a pilot bushing is required (and should be replaced as a precaution when changing out the clutch) for manual transmission cars. Maybe that's only for a rear drive setup. :shrug:
