Pwntbywombat 3L Build Thread

its the starter trying to engage then it just pops back...over and over again. we checked the relays, and they are working fine. i believe all the grounds are hooked up, i mean....we didnt have any wire left over if thats what you mean. and we didnt have any connecters on the engine harness that didnt find their way back...so im at a loss for ideas at this point.

dude, whered you get the "new" starter?

sounds like a bad starter, I went through two junk yardies, even rebuilt one, before giving up and getting a "recycled" unit with a garauntee. these u-pull-it starters aren't worth the trouble on a car with the starter were it is on ours. bout 45 bucks should set you straight with one that has been tested and proven to work.

also make sure the battery has a full charge, it's very possible your battery is providing 12v, only at like 6amps or something. the voltage isn't the problem, it's the current. learn how v and amps convert into watts and youl have a better understanding of the power it takes to run that big motor we call a starter. whats the minimal battery we need? 750amps? yeah, charge the battery for sure, use a 6 amp bike charger and leave it on for 24hrs or so.

oh man, a locked up engine would be ugly. thing is, if it were locked up, wouldnt the starter engage, try to turn, and strip the plastic ring gear in the planetary trans it uses to adjust the torque output?

I had the exact same "click click" with two different pos starters, even rebuilt one, with no luck. i'm guessing the starter is from pull-a-part ect, and not worth a crap. i've had some u-pull it type ones apart, the actual motor is just rust and garbage after a few months in the rain.

I would also remove the drive belt. I've seen locked up alternators stop the engine from turning over.

+2, friend of mine had a siezed ac pump on his GT that would snap the belt when the clutch came on with the car already running, but then i guess that locked up too, because we went to start it and it wouldn't do squat, took the belt off, fired right up. we had to drive that one home with no water pump because mustang water pumps are off the accessory belt. with our cars you could practically drive around with no serpentine belt

first time i did my 3L i drove about ten miles without a serp. belt. had to go get one to fit without an ac pump and i was anxious to drive it. hahaha

That's crazy, I didn't know you could drive these without the serp belt for a little while, wierd

it is a reman starter and a reman alternator. the alternator and all the accessories spin like they should. the a/c isnt there to cause any issues. ill try to get a video up of what it does. it SOUNDS like a dead battery, and all the symptoms point to a dead battery. but the battery is NEW! :( i just want to drive my ford! haha

technically, you can drive any car for a short distance with no belt, just that cars with serpentine driven water pumps will over heat, and they all eventually run out of battery life and the computer goes crazy and you loose almost all power from the engine.

[edit] oh, and it's not to great for the steering rack to be forcing it around without the hydraulic assistance either.

when it wasnt in the car i i turned it while i was timing it. so, like an hour before the motor met up with the transmission and dropped into the car it was turning normally.

yeah but that was before you crashed the input shaft into the crank.

oh lord, I'm pretty sure the ears break off the bell housing trying to cinch it down with the pilot bushing still there.

that would be one of the dumbest things ever to do though.
