So if I were to redo my rims(Clean off all clearcoat paint and excess), what would I have to do to repaint them. Sanding? If so what grit should I use? What I would like to do is repaint them black where the gray is on the "Insides". I have a can of Dupli-Color clearcoat. I would just have to buy some black stuff. Thoughts? Advice?

P.S. Before the smart comments about needing new rotors come, Yes I know I need them:cool:

Edit: Could I use a power sander on them?

Sure, you can use whatever you want to sand them. Wash them first to get all the dirt off. On my probe rims I used about a 400 grit sandpaper to rough up the old paint. After you're done sanding you need to clean them thoroughly, I used just a damp cloth to get the dust off them and letting them air dry. Then just get some decent Dupli-color black "wheel" paint. Spray them evenly in light coats and when you're sure you have enough coats you can spray them with a few coats of clear and they should old up for a while (mine last about 2 years without repainting them before they start to chip)

Edit: Don't use the 400 grit on the face of the rims if you're not planning on painting that area. I'm not sure what grit you'd want for that but it'd have to be a rather fine grit (over 1000) or just like a scotch guard.

Well I kinda havent decided. I think I might paint the faces light gray or somethin like that... Im undecided on that part.... Thanks for the help:cool:

Good write up, and make sure to tape off the parts you dont want painted so you dont get clear coat overspray all over the rest of your wheel.

I'd take it to a powder coating place and have them bake off the original, sand blast them, then repowder coat and bake them. Not 2 expensive to have that done if you go to the right place.

just look up powdercoating services in your area. Usually there are one or two around. In my area it runs about 60$ a wheel.

Look on thomasnet.com (Thomas Registry)... You can find all sorts of different services like powdercoating that is in your area...
