Record for longest time w/o CEL?

Nope we don't have that crap here, thank the lord.

Pros: No inspections, no front plate, 10 cent bottle return
Cons: Crappy fireworks

christ i'd kill for no inspection. i mean, it's really just a pain in the azz....not to mention a money maker for the state of NY.

and atleast you have fireworks!

Ive had the P420 pop up (on and off) for the last 4 or so years. Havent seen it in awhile though. But Im getting this faint image of "Jimmy Hendricks" on my rear window...Too many 6's in my VIN im thinkin'.

Had the car for 3months so far. the check engine light has been on since i bought it.

mine was on for 2 days. then i slamed on the brakes. yellow and the dumbazz in front slowed down too fast and the light went off just like that. so ive gone 24 hrs or so as of right now.

well I was about to post a few times in this thread but decided against it figuring something would go wrong when I said ....

I have never gotten a cel on my 95 .... owned since May 2k with 86k on it and now at 191k.

Well this weekend I tried to change the O2 sensor, its original as far as I know, and last night coming home from my parents I started getting a CEL coming on and off. Sure enough I got an O2 sensor code .... :censored: . Problem being I can't get the old sensor out ... :censored:

Thanks for all the replies. The CEL stayed on for a while, then turned off for a while, then turned back on. Strange, because I thought they were supposed to stay on in these cars until you reset them. Anyway, the 90k service comes up after 2k more miles, and I'll have it checked then. And have the oil leak fixed. I'll probably hold off on replacing the noisy wheel bearings until my checking account recovers, though.

Moral of the story don't tailgate and you won’t get a cel?
or
Run red lights?

I am leaning towards the first.

I'm sure there is someone, somewhere with a 95 Contour they bought in 94 that maintains the piss outta it who hasn't seen a CEL in 13 years...

Personally, I think I haven't gone a week without a CEL... Always something happening.

If it is blinking, it means your engine has a misfire condition. Not something generally cause by an 02 sensor. I'd look into it more just to make sure.

Bought the Mystique new in early 1998. Until this week I never had an CEL. Car continues to run as smooth as ever. After about 6 starts it went away on its own and so far as not returned.

I was getting the false low cooling level waring for about the first 3 minutes after starting the car. I say false because I am at the full line. But with the help of this forum, I have added a little more to be above the line and that seems to have helped.

I just threw my very first CEL @ 91,870. I bought the car new in Dec. of '99. So just under 9 years for me. Knock on wood still runing smooth. Taboot I am still on the original battery which is going to get replaced this spring after she takes a nice winter nap.

My CEL's been ON for the last 175,000 miles! Supposedly P0420 and P0430. Dealer said don't worry about it, and I haven't. Talked to another mechanic, and he since the engine was starting and running fine and getting the same 30+ mpg its always gotten, then ignore the CEL. I did let myself get talked into spending around $100 to have the ECU reflashed, but the CEL was back on before I got the car home from the dealer's. At this point in my car's life, its definitely on a minimum-expenditure life support.

Sometimes I want to live anywhere but the northeast. You'd fail inspection every year around here. I remember at least one CEGer getting rid of his car because he couldn't get the light to shut off long enough to pass.
