Reseting PCM/ECU...

Is there any way other than disconnecting the battery to reset the PCM?
I want to give it a shot one more time but tired of disconnecting the battery each time. I also read somewhere that disconnecting the battery is not a recommended method.

So is there a fuse for PCM? Can I just remove the fuse?

Want to do this the right way this time...

Well, I was asking if there was a way to cut the power to PCM only. There is no difference between removing the megafuse and disconnecting the battery. Is there?
If there is a way just to cut the power to PCM without cutting the power to radio, clock etc., I would prefer that. I am trying to reset PCM's memory to let the car relearn the optimum settings. I am not trying to clear any memory codes.

I'm not near my car right now, but do you have a manual handy? Is there a fuse for the PCM? :shrug: I guess thats the easiest way to check.
 
PCM fuse is one of the 3 blue 20 amp female box fuses in the center of the underhood fuse box. I believe it is the one in the center, but I can't remember exactly but I believe the top 20A is the ignition, then PCM.
 
Nonsense!

Depends on the year or your car (you didn't identify), but it's probably fuse F11 (PCM Memory) under the hood.

Should be a 3 or 5 A fuse.

OK....well then, if it is a 2000 SVT refer to my above post because that's what it is on my car. I would assume the 2000 is a 20A instead of 3A or 5A because it has integrated PATS.
 
its got a 3 amp fuse to clear memory. at least my E0 does. gotta leave it off for like fifteen minutes or more. then start the car and let it idle for a few minutes

By the sound of it just might be better to just disconnect the battery.... Your not going to damage anything, it will have the same effect as pulling a fuse. Only down side is the memory to the clock and radio is lost.

Before you start it up make sure all loads are off, heater, lights, so on. And let the car idle for about 1-2 mins before touching gas or putting in gear to allow the computer to learn the base idle.

The electrical system of a 2000 is very different from the earlier models. Your information is still wrong. See your 2000 Contour owner's manual for the correct information.

PATS has nothing to do with PCM KAM.
