River City Mustang and All Ford Show

Date: Sept 17, 2006
Time: 8:00- 3:00 Registration closes at 11:00
Location: Uftring Automall in East Peoria, IL

Over 50 Ford and Mustang classes, including an SVT Contour/SVT Focus class. 7 “Best of” plaques and plaques to top 3 places in each class.

Two very special cars scheduled to be here: 1965 Shelby Mustang convertible clone with 2003 cobra drive train (a work of art) and a 1968 Shelby Mustang GT 500KR coupe (as new) restored and extremely low mile car – it’s time warp new.

This show has had as many as 200 cars at it in the past, a good show to check out.

Cool!!

Sorry I don't have the entry fee information at hand. In the past I don't recall it being very much, $15-$20 maybe.

Here's some info for you...

Sunday's forecast has a 40% chance of showers in it. In addition, just tonight the weatherman on tv indicated they could be severe. :( Not saying don't come, just be prepared. I'll have an easy-up canopy if you want to hang out in the shade or in the dry.

There is major road construction on I-74 in the immediate East Peoria and Peoria area. There is a temporary exit off the west bound interstate to IL-116/US150 (exit 95) which is where you'll need to get off to go a couple miles north (left turn at the bottom of the ramp) to the show. Once you turn left to go north, go to the 5th stoplight and turn left, then a quick right onto the frontage road.

Are you coming up that morning or the night before?

I'll look forward to meeting you there.

ill be coming in on sunday morning being that we are an hour behind you guys then i wont have to leave so early. i mapquested it and they said like 3 hours, so im going to leave myself plenty of time to get there. and i appreciate the heads up on the road construction. i am assuming that they are parking cars by class or is it just random? also i will be in a silver svt with svtf rims and a cf1 cowl hood so keep a look out for me if i dont see ya. also is it just for svt focus' because a friend of mine has a supercharged zx3 that he might be bringing.

I just checked with the guy running the show (Kenyon), and he said the entry fee is $15.

Also, the class you and I are in (SVT Contour/SVT Focus) is not the same one your friend would be in. Your friend would be in essentially an "Other Ford Vehicles" class and Kenyon couldn't remember off the top of his head whether that class was split between original and modified or not. Remember, there are 70 classes. He did sound excited about seeing your friend's modded Focus though since he has a modded SVT Focus himself that I think his wife drives.

Hope that helps.

Oh, and I heard that US150/IL116 is getting worked on too from the interstate north about a mile. If you want directions to avoid that whole mess, try this:

From I-74 westbound, take exit 112 (Goodfield) and turn right (north) at the top of the ramp. This will be route IL-117.

Take IL-117 north about 7 miles to Eureka, to US-24 (second stoplight... still can't believe we have 2 stoplights now... ).

Turn left on US-24 and go about 13-15 miles, where you will start down a big hill toward the Illinois River. Take the exit ramp for IL-116 to East Peoria (the second exit). You'll see the dealership at the SW corner of the US24/IL116 interchange.

It is an easy adjustment that will probably add no more than 10 minutes (probably less) to your trip.

good deal. i just spoke with my buddy with the focus and he is throwing a cel code so he is going to bring it over to my house tonight and we are going to scan it and see what is going on. if it is nothing major and we can take care of it tonight or tomorrow he will be bringing it as well, but either way the svt is up and running well so i will be there for sure. do you have any idea about how many contours will be there? or how many showed last year

ohh and thanks for the traffic update as well. you should definitely look into getting a job at the local news station doing the traffic report, because i believe you might know all the construction in the tri-county area.

In the past, the only times there were Contours there, it was me, but I haven't been able to go the past couple years. In fact, the first time I entered, I was in the "Other Fords" class myself. Only after that did they create the SVT Focus/SVT Contour class because there were enough Foci plus me to warrant it.

are there very many svt foci around there? i know you said that one of the guys that works at the stealership has one but i didnt know what all was around there. also do you have any idea on how they do the judging? i really hope that it isnt a crowd participation vote, because those are always way misjudged.

There are some modded Focuses around here. Not sure how many will be at the show. Again, its been a couple years since I've been able to go.

The judging is not peoples choice by any means, but it is pretty casual. Basically it is a cleanliness-type competition with judge teams to determine the scores. No anal white-glove types trying to compare your car to perfect original condition like at a concourse d'elegance or anything. It is pretty relaxed and just a good time to hang out with other Ford owners.

alright man, well i have just got done clay barring the whole car and putting 3 coats of wax on it. so it should be ready to go in the morning. plan on leaving out of here about 8:30-9:00 our time. we are an hour behind you. so i will plan on seeing you there tomorrow

Well it turned out to be a decent show today. There were 161 vehicles registered, which is amazing considering the forecast was for thunderstorms, possibly severe, starting mid-day. The morning radar even showed storms moving in, looking like they might hit as early as 9:30.

But the reality was that only a few sprinkles fell about 11:30 and those were not even enough to require drying off the cars since it was so light. Then the sun came out under blue skies for about an hour before clouds rolled in again. The judging was completed quickly and awards were handed out starting at 2:15 because rain was moving in from the south. I got home about 3:00 (my house is only a couple miles from the dealership) and the light rain started about 3:30 or so.

I took first place out of one in my class. Not sure what happened to slvrsvt but he didn't make it to the show.

ya i woke up this morning and it showed rain in the forecast, so i decided the three hour trip wasnt worth it to get rained out. i went to a show about 15 minutes from my house. sorry about not being able to make it.

That's ok. I would not have been thrilled either about driving 3 hours to a show when the forecast was for rain and severe weather, especially when a closer show was available.

Glad it wasn't because there was a problem or anything.
