Was talking to a buddy lastnight and he was up in wisconson over the weekend. he said he heard a strange sounding car and looked nextdoor and saw a silver SVT leave the neighbors house. when the guy came home he went over and asked about the car and what was under the hood. the man refused untill my friend (being a rotary fan) said it sounds like a rotary engine in that car. The guy apparently opened hood after that comment and sure enough there was an '85 12a or whatever under the hood turbo charged! he asked if the guy knew of contour.org and the guy said he did anyone know who this is???

And this is all "he said, she said" or is there anything that would be considered as proof to you?

I haven't heard of any such thing..

not to mention, what kind of hell would you have to go through to mount that in the bay, much less mate a transaxle to it that would work in the Tour..

that was the summary of the conversation but the fact that the guy is apparently on CEG made me want to at least see if they were a real person. i highly doubt that his story is true as he tried to say that a 3L is heavier than a 2.5L when we all know it is the same or less. but... curious to see if anyone had tried this outragious build

I've never heard of any story like this. Not saying it isn't possible, because anything is possible if you have enough money but I wouldn't bet on it in this case.

EDIT: Maybe the Plasma Vulcan motor is real afterall?

I call BS until I see evidence. It would cost way more money and take more time/skill than I think anyone is willing to put into a Contour! :) I would love to see it though! :) And I am not BS the OP. I believe that he heard that story, but I don't believe that this car exists. Is there anyway you can find out where the guy lives and see it yourself... and take a camera! No one will belive it until they see it. Period.

Is it RWD too!?!?! :)

it was me... I have the secret silver svt with a rotary - it is just painted purple right now and looks like a '95 with a 2.5 duratec in it.....

Haha, with the low numbers a rotary puts out, especially low end torque, I'm pretty sure it would be hard pressed to move a car the weight of an SVT, right?

Would be no worse than a ZTEC or a non SVT 2.5 Motor. A Stock internal rotary with custom headers will put ~140-160 hp to the wheels depending on the year of engine used. Torque would be much worse than the 2.5.

I have no idea how it would fit or why somebody would want to try, but I would love to see pictures.

Yeah. Low numbers....

a 1.3l Non turbo puts out 180bhp...

american duratec 2.5l out of an svt barly does that...

My buddy has a 93 Rx7 with 500hp dyno proven.

!3b race port
Gt35r Turbo
20psi

Why would someone do this??? To be different....Our cars are already different.....Not that often that you see our cars around on a daily basis...Have to see it to believe it...Seen a rotary engine in an old VW Bug.....

Where did you find that number for a 13B Non Turbo?
86-88 13B NA was 146hp at the E Shaft
86-88 13B Turbo was 180hp at the E Shaft
89-91 13B NA was 160hp at the E Shaft
89-91 13B NA was 200hp at the E Shaft

I don't doubt the 500hp from an FD. What I do doubt is the longevity and streetability of that motor. As long as we are talking about friends, I have one with a 1000hp Skyline. It is certainly not a streetable car.

Im talking about the New Rx8 Motors... and Yes its streetable.. and The motors do last if built Right, and Not Trashed On...

And speaking of friends.. Hes got a 1700hp Corvette with twin 106mm Turbos and Runs 6's...

True story.

Ah, Ok. I have seen dyno's of stock Renesis motors making 180 HP but less than 130 Torque. Plus who the heck is going to put a Renesis into anything. They are still expensive engines, especially compared to a 13B. Mind a good rebuild of a 13B is around $3,000.

Still, WHERE ARE THE PICTURES!!!!!!

You know, there are a lot of cars out there that would be really cool with a rotary swap, but the Contour is one of the worst; might as well stick one in an E-350 van.

I don't believe this swap ever took place, not even for a second. Anyone smart enough and dedicated enough to pull off the swap, would be smart enough to go a different direction to start with.

I heard about a guy who was dropping in a Toyota Corolla motor. It wasn't pretty -- he got bit several times.
