Royal Purple after thoughts...

Well I did not have to order off of that site... The Pepboys to my south only had Royal Purple ATF, but I decided to take the short trip up to Manchester (an excuse to go for a drive too) and they had the Synchromax for $9.99...

I have my tranny mostly drained out now, and I will pull the plug again tomorrow morning (hopefully the wind will die down) and see if anything else comes out...

Then I bought some brake fluid too so I can bleed my clutch some more tomorrow after I get the tranny filled...

Hopefully I will then experience smooth shifting and will not be let down like I was with the Ford Honey...

Not that my 2 cents means anything but I switched to Royal Purple two years ago because the shifter is often tight going into first at a stop light. The Royal Purple didn't seem to help. Other gear shifting didn't seem any different either.

I have rp in both of my cars and LOVE it. I just got a tranny flush and re-fill with rp in the silver car and its all I will ever use. I will pay the $9.00 a qt

Switched from what??? Plus if your problem happens even when the car has had a chance to warm up, it's probably not the fault of the fluid anyway.

Hmm, you might want to try bleeding the clutch, read this thread all the way through: http://www.contour.org/ceg-vb/showthread.php?t=29915

Sometimes I had a little difficulty getting into first or reverse when stopped, and it was near impossible to get from neutral into first or second when the car was rolling, making rolling stops impossible (hey, just trying my best to be fuel efficient )...

Hey guys,
I've been reading through everybody's stories and 2 cents, and it has helped me to decide to change trans fluid again.
I've had my car about 2 years now...I changed the trans fluid after I had it about 6 months, with the Ford "honey". (I got it for $20 a quart from a friend that gave me his Ford discount at the dealership I use to work out.)
I'll be replacing my clutch this weekend, and I figured it'd be a good idea to change trans fluid since we'll be messing around it anyways. After reading everyone's comments, I've decided to go with the Royal Purple Syncromax.

Love Royal Purple. Did the switch in the 3L and what a difference. Shifting definitely became smoother.....

I don't get it when people say Ford Honey is this horrible stuff when it is cold. I most likely live in the coldest place out of any CEG'er and the Ford Honey wasn't bad at all. You let the car warm up for 5 min when it is -50F and it will be stiff for like 3 seconds. Once you roll it threw the gears one time, you are fine. I am sure it will be the same with Royal Purple as well. Granted the cost of the Ford stuff might not be worth the extra $20 a quart but it isn't this craptastical fluid in the cold that everyone makes it seem like.
I got to agree with Jon on this. I bought the car with almost 14k on it in Nov. and switched to the Ford Honey in Dec. The car was noticably stiff getting into 2nd after the switch when it was below 40. Car was normal after getting warmed up and it takes a lot longer than rowing through the gears one time. I asked Terry H. about it and he said likely the factory ATF swells the shift forks (?) even with the low mileage as it was in there 9 years.
Either way, the car was much stiffer after the switch only when it was cold (but only 2nd and only below 40 ).
I probably won't switch fluid anytime soon but I'll try RP next.

Man...I didn't realize I would have so much trouble finding the RP Synchromax!! I've called atleast 20 parts stores in Delaware, and non of them carried it. Some of them just had the motor oil. I would've ordered it online if I knew I was gonna have this much trouble!...but I need it by tomorrow...

However...I called a "hole in the wall" auto parts store that I've never been to before, and they ended up having 4 qts left!! I know they have been on the shelf for awhile, cuz the price originally marked had gone up since then. But it really made my day!!

I just got my 3 bottles in the mail the other day and plan on doing the swap at 115k (about 6k from now). You cant beat getting it next day for less than $10 a quart.

Yea I got mine for $10 a qt. But honestly, I can't really tell a difference between the Ford Motorcraft "honey" and the RP Synchromax. ..(I had the Ford "honey" put in about 1 year ago or so, but my clutch was really worn). So with the new clutch, its hard for me to tell. But I do really like the RP tho.

Thanks for the tip.

I switched from the factory trans fluid to RP. BTW.

I used Lucas Tranny fluid with Ford synthetic for years in my ATX-CD4E!!
Also installed a cooler on it.
Never rebuilt it. All was original and never gave me an issue.
And it's bloody cold up here in Manitoba in the Winter guys!
