Sidemarker install

Ok well I found the how to for the sidemarkers but to be truthful it didnt help much. I did sidemarkers (with another persons help) on my old SVT. They did not run with lights or anything, just blinked with the signals. In the how to it talks about using diodes and resistors, but I never used those when I did it last time....so my question is, when doing my new sidemarkers, if I want then only to blink with the signals do I really need all the other electronic components? And what is the basic wiring for this (what wire do I splice up front)? Thanks in advance
 
no, the wiring and the resistors/diodes are for people the would like to have the lights half bring with the parking lights and full bright with the turn signals ... and this is for a incodecent two wire bulb, like the A6 side marker, not sure it would work at all with leds ...

How is it common sense? I thought that there were two wires going to the blinker, one for the running light and one for actual blinker. I may be wrong but I wanted to know which was the one to splice. I wasnt asking what to splice...thought that was clear, but thanks for your sarcastic help :rolleyes:

Heres a couple ideas;

A. There are 3 wires you have to choose from. Geuss and check, its not gonna hurt anything.

B. Bust out the voltmeter, and find out from the connector.

Either one you cant go wrong.
 
Thanks everyone...I just got them a few minutes ago and I will post up once I'm finished with the install.
 
I'm installing today. The audi sidemarkers I got were the wrong ones so I went out and bought some, and I'm installing them today once I get my car back from the tire shop.
 
It is confirmed working because I put sidemarkers on this past Wednesday. Basically the light is on but half power all the time. When you put your signals on, the light brightens to full output.

I didn't take any while making them but it should look exactly like the harness in the how to.

On my SVT the side markers where wired to blink only. I made up the part of the harness with the resistors and diode to make them running lights also. I can post pics of that monday night ...
 
I wired mine to blink only and all I did was find a ground and wire the hot wire into the turnsignal wire on the headlights. Took like 10 mins, no need for res. if you go that route.
 
Forgive me if this is common knowledge amongst you all but I have searched and didnt see where anyone simply hooked up both wires, one to turn filament and one to marker filament without diodes or resistors.........this makes the sidemarker constant on but when turn signal is turned on the light cancels and alternates on and off with the turn signal (make sense?).

I did my old 97 that way.....worked awesome, give it a shot.

I believe you are talking about the possitive ground method ... iirc you connect the turn signal to the running light and turn signal. yes it would turn the side marker off when the turn signal is on.
