so would the vss be why my car is reading 10mph faster then what i'm really going
From what I gather, no. I'm under the impression taht it either works...or it doesn't. If you're CONSISTENTLY above by 10mph, take the needle off the pin, set your cruise control, find out how fast you're going, and replace needle. Hardest part is finding out how fast you're going

I did it by using data logging software (thanks BrApple!). I set cruise control on an open road, he told me how fast I was going, and I popped on the needle. Don't bet on getting it right your first time. It's harder than it looks.

Do the speed check with a GPS. They are very accurate. If you don't own one I'm sure you could find one to borrow for 10 minutes. No set-up req'd when switching from one vehicle to another.

My '99 CSVT speedo is tits on at all speeds up to 85mph. Only then does it start to read off (high side) by 1 mph. At 95mph it's off by 2 mph only. Best I have ever seen besides a Mercedes.

Jap cars and bikes are the worst. My VTX reads a consistant 10 to 11% over actual speed. I think they do it so your warranty expires sooner and gas mpg appears to be higher. Dealer said 10% is acceptable error and refused to repair/replace under warranty. But actually no way for them to repair as every single one is off. No joke, 100% consensus on Honda forum for speedo error, off by 5% and higher.
