i think the shape of them is good and have not seen any in the uk and trying to get the uk version of the svt is hard as they did not make many and people ask way too much for them when they aint worth it here there are some pics of my mondeo in the pic section if you want to check it out

Can it be registered in UK? I know if I got a Mondeo, registering it in US is a massive process, due to Federal US safety and emission standards. Older vehicles like from the 70's are not so bad to import privately.

Punctuation too much work, importing a car here is easy when its through the customs all i need to do is ,pay road tax which we do on most all cars some over a certain age get it free, get it mot'd which is an annual safety check and insure it, or if its under 10 years sva it which is a longer check to see that it's road worthy.

There are plenty of Contours in the UK... go near a US installation! Bet you'll see a few... RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall come to mind.

However, it's easier to bring imports into Europe. VAT and converting to Euro spec is going to suck, though.

Not sure if you know, but all US military in the UK have to convert their vehicles to meet Euro specifications (not the case here in Germany), so I know a bit about what it takes.

Things that need converted on a Contour:
• Rear turn signals - Contours have integrated brake/turn signals.
• Rear fog light - Most US spec cars do not have this
• Side repeaters - Again, most US spec cars do not have these
• City lights - US spec cars do not have these (some older Japanese cars do)
• Headlight aim - Must aim them the opposite direction
• Reflectors - Seems that rear reflectors near headlight level are required
• Headlight height adjustors - Required in Germany, not sure about the UK

A German civilian in my shop went through a divorce from his US military wife and could no longer use the USAREUR registration on his US spec Focus hatch, so he had to convert it to Euro spec (like above, but minus the headlight aim, obviously).

Since a US Spec Focus is identical to the Contour in issues, he had to do the following:

1. He had to cut the turn signal wires and run his own to the back of the car where he installed yellow lamps in the old reverse light hole. Since US spec cars flash one of the brake lights when you use the turn signal, running your own wires bypasses that and brings it into complaince which says that you MUST have yellow turn signals on the rear.

2. He had to install a rear fog light below the bumper, just like you see on older vehicles since there isn't even a spot for a fog light on US cars.

3. Since he used the old reverse light spots for the turn signals, he had to install a new reverse lamp, which is also mounted below the bumper on the opposite side as the fog lamp.

4. Had to install side repeaters on the front fenders and wire them into the turn signals using resistors so the turn signals don't freak out and flash fast.

5. Had to cut the existing parking light wires on the front turn signals (our front position lights are yellow and integrated into the turn signal) and run them to white lamps installed in the grille for city lights.

6. He had to install some stick on reflectors on the bumper, most likely because the rear reflectors on his Focus are way up near the roof (where the brake lights are).

7. He had to obtain a waiver letter from the TUV since his car does not have adjustable headlights from the inside of the car. Not sure if UK spec cars have them, but there is a 4 position switch inside German spec cars that raise and lower the headlight aim (usually accomplished with engine vacuum or a small electric motor) to compensate for load, etc. NO US spec cars have this feature.

OH, and BTW, I'll sell you mine for 2000£, but you'll have to convert it to UK spec... also you will more than likely have to spend a lot of money to register it, since it has TONS of aftermarket parts... I'm located in Germany, btw, so shipping will be cheaper! Hell, I'll even drive it there after I fix the idle and get it to pass inspection here!

If you were to be interested, I could possibly do some of the work on converting to Euro spec... Already has side repeaters, and I can do the other wiring stuff like putting yellow lamps in the reverse socket, and install a fog lamp and reverse lamp similar to what the dude did on his Focus (but would look better, since I can put it behind the mesh on the cutout). Headlight aiming will suck, and probly have to be done by a shop up there (heard they will even put TAPE on the headlights to block glare from oncoming drivers).

Can't the ST200 be considered the UK "version" of the SVT Contour? It's probably an upgrade to boot. :D

Yes, and ehhh... depends... same drivetrain, so the same issues arise as ours (plus headgaskets that seem to like blowing).

However, the interior is WAY nicer than the crap we got. Same guages (but blue faced), automatic digital climate control, trip computer, heated Recaro seats, etc.

We got the shaft BIG TIME on the interior!

But, if he already doesn't like the bodies on the Mondeos, then the ST200 isn't going to change that... I personally prefer the Mondeo body to ours, but I guess it's cause we didn't have it (probly the same with him).

Left hand drive silly!!!!! You can't take a US SVT to the UK without converting it to right hand drive.

we can drive left hand drive cars here no probs just puts the insurance up a bit, your car sounds ideal for me but it's a bit out of my price range at the mo,finding an st200 at the right price is hard as they were limited in production and people use that to try to get far more than they are worth.

My Car ! Its not for sale
I had no idea you would be allowed. In Australia you are not allowed unless it was on the road before the 60's and has been continuously registered. I guess its because you guys are so close to Europe.

Yeah, there's a lot of US military up in the UK with, obviously, left hand drive cars... they just butcher the crap out of the headlights apparantly.

2000GBP (or a bit less than $4000USD) is around the going price for a decent SVT in the States.

However, I'm so pissed at the fact that something different is always wrong every other week, I'm actually willing to go down near $3000, but obviously I'm gonna high ball it around $4000 and ask for offers when I finally get it going and sell it locally.
