does anyone know the best place to find a 2.5L 98CSVT water pump?

and is it difficult to put in yourself?
(special tools, require lots of knowledge to complete?)

im not saying im dumb, but i dont know everything about contours... yet ;)

my engines been running a little hot, and im smelling a wee bit of anti-freeze, so im thinking it could be my water pump...

I payed about $55 for my waterpump with the METAL impeller! I bought it from Murrays. Don't buy another one with the plastic impeller. It is pretty easy with minimal mechanical knowlege and just a few tools. I would flush your coolant when you change your waterpump. Old coolant becomes very acidic and will eat new gaskets, and I'm sure it's not good for the new waterpump!

is there any way of telling if theres a metal one on my car. like a part # i can look for? i have no idea if mine has one or has ever been replaced at 100K

I couldn't find a metal impellar pump. And I searched all over SE MI, oh well, I have a life time warranty on the plastic one, so now all it'll ever cost me is time.

I have two water pumps I am trying to get rid of.

One being a brand new Ford OEM water pump (plastic impellers though). The second being a used aftermarket water pump with metal impellers.

I found a metal impeller water pump at Checker auto. I think when I had my Mystique I got at metal one at Napa (and at the time it was the only place I was able to find one). For the water pump housing I had no luck finding one anywhere except through Ford directly and it came with the OEM water pump (plastic impellers).

Same here. NAPA, Oreilly's, Autozone...none of them carried the metal impellar...

Unfortunately it took me 4 hours to replace mine. I dont know why...supposedly it shouldnt be more than a 2 hr job

I didn't have time for SP's BS, I needed my car back on the road ASAP.

I broke down in the middle of Dallas in 8 am rush hour traffic and it was already 95 degrees. I called in to work and had the job finished that afternoon. I am in complete agreement with RawBurt, unless you can get your hands on it that same day, it takes too long to order stuff from SP

Also, I would recommend replacing your thermostat, its in one of the big tubes leading to the water pump. These dont normally go bad, but while you have everything torn apart, I would go ahead and replace it.
