Has anyone ever painted with toreador red? I just acquired a lot of professional painting guns and I wanted to move on from the rattle can.

I have heard that toreador red is a three (?) color red and is more complex than just primer/paint/clear. My question is to anyone who has painted a toreador red car, what is the paint process and what are the red's involved.

Thanks for any help.

i bought a can of t-red and had a buddy paint some stuff for me. I dont recall him doing anything special...just prime, paint, and clear.

T-red is stupid expensive though, the paint shop that mixed it for me said its because there is so much pearl in it.

It sucks that I can't find T-Red rattle cans that are the right color anymore. They are all to dark. Its like light and med are code FL. Than dark is something different.

I know painting with T-Red was discussed on the forums a lot in the past. Like you said, FL seems to have two shades. IIRC, the Pre-98 T-Red was a slightly different shade than the 98-00 T-Red but shared the same code. It was only noticeable when you put the parts side by side. Normally you would think it's just faded vs new, but some people got a direct match the first try with others didn't.

I don't have a T-Red myself so I don't have any experience but I know you aren't the fist to ask about it.

I can get matching t-red rattle cans for $22 each FYI.

Just painted my brother's mirko with it. Perfect match. Also use that paint can to spray a small puddle and dip a small art brush in it to touchup scratches and chips in his paint. Can't even tell.

I also used rattle can "jamb clear" which is much harder than just a regular gloss clear rattle can, but has a little more satin finish because it is meant to be buffed out. Should hold up awesome on a mirko, so we will see.

(don't mind the giraffe, he has a weird fettish with them)

I did some pricing of just t-red and it is pretty expensive.

I had my front clip painted after an accident years ago and I remember the body shop saying that they had to use a couple of "stages" to get the color right. I didn't question him further so Im not sure if he was feeding me a line or what. I may just have to buy some red and some primer and start experimenting. I have a spare hood from a friends car that I will practice on. As long as I can match the color, it doesn't matter how I do it.

The body shop I went tO says tred is very hard to match up.
It took them 3 try's to get it as close as they did. It's still a TOUCH off but much closer than the duplicator.
