Trouble Code P0340....Camshaft Position....

..I hooked the scanner/reader to my 98 Contour SE,75,000 miles,
and got this code after engine light come on. "Camshaft Position,
Sensor A, Bank 1, Circuit Malfuntion."
Is this an easy fix.

With the camshaft involved, it worries me.
I just want to know a little before
taking it to the garage in the morning.

BTW, it did start jerking and died a few times. Luckily, I
wasn't far from home and made it back. I know the timing
belt needs replaced. There is also a new noise (like a rattling)
from under the front end.
 
FYI, the timing belt was cut down the middle. Luckily, it stayed on.
So, a new timing belt and water pump sure beats replacing the engine.:laugh:

it sure does. make sure you replace all of the pullies also. my timing belt tensioner was about to split completely in half when I replaced it. Also make sure you timing is correct when you put it back together since the belt was coming apart.

hmm maybe the belt going has something to do with the code?

Hey guys....
new guy here!
I have a 1998 Contour SE 2.5 MTX and I have a CEL on that reads camshaft position sensor Bank 1.
I am not sure where this thing is!?!? I changed what I thought was the csp and come to find out it was a Camshaft interupter???
well, the light went our for about 3 days then came back on with the same reading. Someone pls tell me where the csp is and if the interupter engages the CEL as well. thanks gang!!
