Wouldn't wish this on too many people, and no one here.

'95 Mystique V6, replacing TSS. See procedures in these forums, giant help!~

In taking old TSS off, I broke it level with the transmission housing. Was gentle as could be but still broke in prying off old one. (there was a rust ledge which didn't let it out)

See pics. Oy. First tried drilling exposed metal of "slug" remaining of TSS inside transmisstion exposed by break with cobalt 1/8" bit. Barely made a dent. Switched to slightly larger carbide bit, which drilled nicely.

Always blew out anything throughout this process with compressed air. Didn't look like there was any way to go in to transmission. Time will tell...

Carbide bit went thru thin layer of VERY HARD steel, into the magnet part, softer steel, and sort of magent material with some copper windings exposed.

Screwed various screws into drilled holes, trying to pull the slug out, no way.

I made two holes, not too consciously, which eventually led to a place to put needle nosed pliers to pull remainder out.

Oh boy, I've got it, I thought. No. I pulled and pulled and lubricated and lubricated and used solder gun, solder iron, heat gun to melt off any remaining plastic which I thought was hindering withdrawal.

No way, would not come out.

Couple hours pass, pulling, melting, wondering, comparing with new one....

Then noticed slight LEDGE made out of RUST, very nicely formed, at outside of hole.

Got gigantic drill bit which matched the hole (email me for size if needed). Pulled slug to front to obscure interior from any drilling flakes of steel. Drilled for 1.67 seconds, hole rust ledge cleared, slug pulled out easily.

Cleaned everything as much as I could, put new ATF on new TSS, installed it, etc. What a relief, I thought all was lost. Haven't tested it yet, but should work.

Easily more than half a day.

Mike

Wow, somebody's been there before!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sort of like Mitzi in the sixties...

Thanks for the reference.

What are the chances the TSS and the VSS go bad in one 400 mile trip? On a 25K 1995 V6? As far as I can tell they did, runs well now.

Congrats on your success!

Congrats on your success!

First I have heard of drilling the hole out. My car's TSS was stuck nicely as well. Basically drilled out the device and pulled bits and pieces out for an hour:crazy:
