Was at autozone today, and saw some addon hood scoops, paintable, a really big one, and a half size one, like you would use for dual scoops. Since that, i've been thinking "that might be a good way to force cool air into the engine bay, bringing it through the UIM cooling it down" and "if I put a CAI in there it would bring it lots of cool air" but I decided i'd come here first and ask, what is the general consensus on hood scoops, good or bad idea?

I can agree with that, i'm seeing the "tornado siren" scoops and I think they look like crap and probably block a lot of vision, just a personal opinion. I can see their functionality if you have a big setup needing lots of air, but for a regular NA setup, smaller is better. But like all things good, I think moderation is the key, and either the small dual scoops on either side of the hood, or the medium size one in the center, both only rise about 2-3 inches.

i had a friend who had those exact some scoops on his svt and they didn't look too bad. his were all looks so i thought it was a terrible idea but if there functional then i say go for it.

Even if it is functional, it will still look stupid. Autozone is not a good place to shop for aesthetic mods. I vote bad idea.

Hood scoops for looks, 99.9% of the time gay.

As you're into aesthetic mods, I'm a bit surprised by your response. Don't be hating on aesthetic hood scoops!

On the other hand, I can shamelessly say I think hood scoops look tacky and juvenile unless they serve a good purpose.

I absolutely luv hood scoops when they are functional. However, autozone isnt a place i'd shop for them for obvious reasons. The one brapple posted looks great. I luv the dual cossie louvers as well. Look into those.

Contour hood looks good as is,to much curves to put a hood scoop imo,id rather just get this carbonfiber hood with the cowl and vent like the picture i found below....Now that is dope lol

I kicked the crap out of a contour with the stick-on hood scoops you speak of. Took a picture when I was done. Here ya go.

I shed a tear everytime i see a SVT in the junkyard or wrecked

I think everyone does, that is before they tear into and get all the "goodies"

How hard would it be to make a scoop functional? Other than of course cutting a hole into your hood?

You could always go from the bottom if you dont want to cut the the hood, this is what i would do

On a contour, i doubt there is room to put something like that under the hood. Also, the only place i can of putting it that would look good is in the lower mesh, blocking the oil cooler somewhat.
That is true,or you could take out the fog light and run a custom dryer vent hose lol...ive seen that done on muscle cars

I agree 110% on that one. I still look to get ideas though. when I did LEDS inside my old car I got the idea from some overpriced 2 LED bar thing autozone had...
anyways, I also agree that the contour hood has too many contours (lol), so maybe scoops are a bad idea. but I will be figuring out a way to force air from underneath to my UIM because I still feel this is an issue. I noticed I am also missing my "splash shield" in the front, that might contribute to my heat issue, maybe I'll fashion some kind of air dam deflector thing.

Just go with vents. They look much better than a scoop on a tour's hood.
