Backfire comes through your intake manifold and is bad, so I hope not. Afterfire comes through the exhaust and is OK but just changing the exhaust on a contour isn't gonna do that. You'd have to mess with timing or have other mods that cause unburnt fuel to enter the exhaust system.

you can get it if you close the throttle too fast without removing the load (disengaging the clutch) but your not gonna make it do it in nuetral without (like you said kremit) doing something to just dump fuel into the exhaust
