The water pump belt on my SVT broke this afternoon so I'm looking to replace it... question is who make the most durable/reliable belt?

Several years ago I had a problem with my SE eating water pump belts, then I found a shop that replaced it for me and it hasn't failed since... I just don't know what brand they used and I now live in another part of the country so I can't take my SVT to them for service.

Any information would be helpful, so if you don't know who makes the best belt please let me know if there's a particular brand that you wouldn't buy again.

Thanks, DT.

one thing I have noticed...the tensioner pulley may also contribute to issues. if you remove the belt and spin the pulley - does it spin freely? if it's kinda rough and has any side-side play, that's also something to consider replacing.

or you could get the shorter belt for a late model 3l which doesn't use the tensioner. I don't recall the number but I posted about it before.

At 95K, my CSVT tensioner pulley seized when the plastic guide for the belt started to melt, causing the belt to destroy itself from friction, further melting the pulley guide, even causing some melted material to form on the water pump pulley! Had to replace the pump as well. AutoZone sells a USA-made belt for very little which looked identical to dealer OEM.

Thanks for all your input...

I took 69Boss302's advice (he's the one that wrote the R & R instructions) and I've bought a new pump, belt and tensioner just to be safe.

Now all I need to do is just get out in the garage and do actual R & R!

DT.
