Which one is the best?

The cloth seats in my 96 have small bolsters. Maybe just the leather 96 had big 'uns.
.

No. My '96 SE has cloth seats with the bigass bolsters. I think these seats were standard on all SE's in '95 and '96.

And my remote gas filler door release stopped working at about 50,000 miles.

Clearly though, the 96 SE is a superior car to any other COntour - with the possible exception of the SVT's - I've never even been in an SVT

Mine has over 120k and the release works fine, perhaps since it is a 4banger it gets better mileage and therefor has been used less :) Any one tried to just replace the cable, or check if there is some adjustment available?
my 2 cents

I think SVTs are the best model because of the interior, exterior, and performance stuff you get with them. Now what year is best... early SVTs had no dash warp, though 5hp less than later models.
Other models did have good points. I like rod shifters like 95s had. Stuff was decontented each year, etc.

You think the SVT interior is nicer than say a MB Pre-98? With leather sunroof, no dash warp, the best center console etc..

I concour that the 96SE is probably the best. I just wish it had a little of the things that the 95SE had.

Wierd. Maybe it was a trim level thing. Bottom-feeding GL gets wussy bolsters, sweet SE gets monster bolsters. Bizarre.

It was the SE seat. GL, LX, and SE seats were all different, in accordance with their trim level and pricing. Nothing bizarre about it.

From the research I've done, 95 and 96 SE's were the ones that had HUGE seat bolstering, which was reduced in 97 (maybe there are some exceptions to this, but I've seen plenty of 97's on autotrader.com with small side bolsters) *cue Debbie Downer music "wuh wahhhh"

Give me a quirky gas door anyday over decontented seats. I might add that the remote release works flawlessly on my 150K mile 96 GL

'96 SE MTX FTW! :)

Oooh...OK, you got me. But I think my seat is bolstered well enough, and I had a '95 with the sticky gas door. It's a tossup between '96 & '97 for me.

Speaking of which, there's a red pre-98 SE in the parking lot next door.

Was it all pretty much the same for the Mystique's? I installed leather seats from a 96 in my 95 Tour and they have the same size, but different bolsters. By that I mean they appear to be as the same but the Tour ones seem to hug you closer. Perhaps that's just an impression since the 95 ones are cloth and the 96's are the leather and they tend to be slippery. I think the cupped seat back was a good improvement too for the leg room in the back seat, but do I care since I don't ride there :)

I also think the SVT's are neat, but then I don't know if they are premium gas better :( , having never driven one.

BTW the 95's are up for grabbs if anyone is interested...

Read my post, I said interior, exterior, and performance. I didn't buy it just cuz it had nice seats (which I dun replaced anyways, leather ain't best thing to hold you in corners).

Reebs,
in reading your FS that reminds me about a spoiler.... I'd like to add one that has the light in it does anyone know what year(s) that was and maybe point me in a direction to find one. My car is Champagne in color it would be tough to find one just the right color..... I have seen about 35 Tours in the wrecking yards and while I have seen several my color I have not seen any of them with a spoiler. I think there was a guy selling them on ebay .... does anyone know anything about him? He sells the spoiler w/ the lights and provides a template for drilling the screw holes. Heck one of those on my lil 4 banger ought to add at least 5 mph on the top end :) With all the goodies I'm adding to this thing soon I'll have to get out the felt tip marker and change the GL to LX, or SE .....

Ok now that Ive gone this far, suppose I just add some side skirts drop in a 3.0 and call it a GL SVT........... seems that I'm getting way over the edge here somebody throw me a rope..........

95 SE was the best year. Aside from the harness issues. Best suspension Best fi t and finnish, best leather interior, most features.

I also have the light group on my 95 GL. Gas door still works too.
The seats are great.
Early years had the wiring harness and tranny issues on the ATX.
Mine hasn't suffered from these issues yet.
I like the 96 SE Sport. Looks really good.
Also like the 2000 SVT.

I don't believe there was such a thing as a '96 SE Sport. That would have been redundant. I don't think the SE Sport appeared until '98 - when the emasculating the old SE trim level.
