Ok this thing is really pissing me off. if the car is cold and it is the first start in several hours, and also if it is shutoff and tehn restarted almost within a minute or so like run in somewhere and come right back out. but if you have been driving like on the highway then shut it off for about 10 to 20 minutes. It will crank and crank and crank. I have figured out enough to know there is no spark. and it does have fuel have checked pressure and it is good. but if you let the car sit for about 10 minutes after first trying to start it will fire right up. It obviously is a heat soak issue. But what is the failure. I have replaced the crank sensor recently. and i thought that was it but then it did it again and again. So i am just hoping somebody has had this problem and can give some insight on this

Thanks

In older cars, the piston rings can get a little worn out. Sometimes this cause "wash out" of the cylinders. Most times, when that happens, push the gas pedal all the way down (this shuts off the fuel injectors) and start. If that doesn't work, removing two or three spark plugs and putting a teaspoon of engine oil, reinstalling the sp, and wires, starting, will usually do the trick. The oil helps to regain compression.

I had a similar problem on an '85 jetronic alfa spider, people told me it sounded like vapor lock but with fuel injection it couldn't be. took me a long time but once with the engine running i went around tapping obvious and hidden relays with a screwdriver. i found one that, when tapped, made the engine stumble a bit. i replaced it and it ran and runs fine.

wait a minute, you just installed a 3L with 75k miles on it
well the motor was free, and when i changed out the svt cams and stuff the inside of the motor looked like it had 7500 not 75000 it was unbelievably clean inside. and a 75k motor is a damn sight younger than the 157k on the car
