x-pipe placement?

Can you guys give me link to some instructions on how to find where an x-pipe should be placed in the exhaust system.

I thought it had something to do with paint and burning it off...thanks!!!
 
those that have true duals...would know or anyone else that has built an x-pipe for any car really.
 
an x-pipe on our cars witch have transversely mounted motors do not have equal exhaust lengths for true duals. there for you would have to measure and find out how to make the x-pipe work so it would be an equal balance. so it wouldn't really look like and x-pipe anymore. if I'm wrong on this then i apologize.

After looking and reading demonsvts site on tru-duals this is what i gathered.

Creating a perfect pulse crossing in our tru-dual exhausts is almost impossible. Since even msds headers still are not pulse accurate because of the tight fit of the tubing.

It should be as close to the y-pipe coming into one area. Remember x-pipes only come in 2.5 inch. So you might have to get reducers.
 
good point about the contours... I neevr thought of that...

However I am not working on a contour...and crayon is a great idea!!!

Yea, but considering you posted it in "Duratech Performance", it's safe to assume you are talking about a contour.

Magnaflow has some stuff. Or you can just run an H-pipe, that ish is easy to make with some tubing and a welder.

Which i recomend over a x-pipe. Most push rod v-8's seem to love h-pipes. Most newer cars have gotten x-pipes.

I don't know why, i know h-pipes have been around longer :shrug:

What i do know is the cars sound quality and power get altered when using either one.
 
More midrange torque/power with H-pipe, they are also less raspy and IMO sound better.

More top end power and some torque, you lose a bit down low torque with an X-pipe. They also sound raspy compared to an H-pipe.

Either way, USE CATS, unless you like the truck sound.
 
I did a bunch of searching on this a while ago (for our platform) and the bottom line is all manufactured x-pipes are 2.5" and larger (H-pipes are available in more sizes). You'd need to custom fab one for smaller pipes. Also all the info I could find about H vs X said that X was better for multiple reasons... H is just cheaper and equalizes. If I become motivated, I'll paste all the links. Also, the general thought about not running a crossover was that a single exhaust would be better.

To find the hot spots, without getting your pipes messy, you can use an IR temp gun.
