Can you tow an SVT with a 2 wheel dolly?

Nobody mentioned "yes you can tow it on a dolly, but leave the keys in the ignition set to "ON/ACC" so the front wheel sterring doesn't lock during a turn", because otherwise you'll drag the car partly sideways. A oft-overlooked error.

The thing that you have to remember is that with U-Haul at least, they count Mom's Attic (the part that hangs over the cab) into the length, so a 17' truck isn't really a 17' truck, more like 15'. I know that I had to get an 8'x20' storage space for my car. I can't remember if the other option that it was too big for was a 15' or 17'. Regardless, it isn't going to fit in a 17' U-Haul if the floor length is really only like 15'.


EDIT: just looked it up. Contour is 183.9" long, so 15'4"

No! You actually want the steering wheel to lock this keeps them set on the pads. most dollies have a swiveling deck anyway so that the car doesn't get against the fenders.

Unfortunately U-Haul was my only option being under 25 years old. I can't rent from Enterprise for a few more years. :laugh:

The U-Haul F-150's were only at certain locations. Most had only moving trucks. I asked about a hitch and they had no problem telling me it was included and ready to go. So why include a hitch on one vehicle, offer a trailer for others to rent, but not be able to combine both? I would think they would want to do that and avoid having someone rig something up wrong and kill someone in an accident when the trailer falls off.
 
What told you that? The large warnings on either fender written in reverse, the statement of acknowledgment that you signed warning against it when you rent a tow dolly, or the fact that you did so and the center piece swiveled on ya?

Wasn't a rental unit but yeah, personal experience. Luckily only had to back it up a couple of feet so I could make a U-turn.
 
I paid around $300 for a 2 wheel and a cube truck from Uhaul and went from Chicago to Livonia MI. when Stazi did the motor on my Hot Wheels car.....

Per Penske's website regarding the use of tow dollies

The parking brake must be released on your vehicle before traveling. Be sure the steering is locked in the straight position, with the wheels pointed straight ahead.

When we rented one from U-Haul they told me the same thing, lock the steering wheel.

When I towed a Corsica across the US in 1990, they told us the exact opposite. You lock the streering wheel, then the car can't freewheel behind you. If you go around the first turn and it locks with the car at a slight angle, you'll drag it along like that until you figure out why it's canted out behind you. Not all steering wheels lock straight ahead, and I'd rather charge the battery after a few days than replace the power steering unit and perhaps the steering column lock.

To each his own.
