Choosing new suspension setup...

This thread was a good read,as I plan on getting new suspension soon I was set on getting Konis, but after reading this and reading what Rara said about the konis only feeling faster,I might go with the k-sports now.The adjustability of them scares me a little though as i'm a noob in the world of tunning suspension,Anways thanxs for the good info guys!

As promised I followed through with this issue with the Ksports...

So I'm still waiting on a technical reason as to why the mounting tab was omitted from the design. However with that said... they would be able to custom build me a set of coilovers with the OEM mounting tab installed for $1045+shipping. The strut housing would be made of steel and painted black.

So who would be interested in buying a set of these custom struts? If there are a few of you I would be willing to move this to the Group Buy forum and try to bargin with the price with Ksport so that we can get a few of these made for a lower price.

I am continuing my effort to find the root cause as to why the tab was omitted in the first place. I will supposedly have an email with in a few days... but then again I've heard that before.

i honestly dont think its a huge issue not having the tab. its not going to fall through the knuckle because of the lip. its not likely to spin once the pinch bolt is in since there is little rotational force. its not going to slide out of the knuckle while hanging since, even with the pinch bolt out, i had to beat the knuckle off the struts tonight when i removed mine.

you would be better off trying to come up with a better way to lock down the sway bar mount tab IMO.

The problem with sway bar end link mount is that as you lower the car the position of the end link mount needs to be adjustable. Not having seen a Ksport kit in person I can't comment on the sway bar end link mounting but I have heard that it is pretty bad too.

the sway bar mount is adjustable. it consists of a threaded collar with a single lock ring both above and below it. what you do is set the height of the sway bar mount, and then lock it down with the lock rings like you would the spring perch. the problem is that if you dont get the lock rings really tight against the collar (which means you have to tighten both at the same time) they could come loose which would allow the sway bar mount (collar) to spin on the shaft. IMO, it needs to be 2 collars that have a pinch bolt like the GC spring perch collar.

i know its blurry but you can see it here.

You can adjust the swaybar to any height you want, the mount just pinches down on the strut.

So is there any kind of group decision on Koni/GC vs. Ksport? I know its subjective, but is one really better for spirited street driving?

I like a firm ride, I don't track my car, but do want the best/most controllable handling for situations like emergency lane changes on the freeway, etc.

I'll pay the greater amount for the Koni/GC setup if it will perform better. My other concern is how low the Ksport is in the front. From what I've read, it sounds like the front is a minimum of 2" below stock, with no way of getting higher, is this correct? Chas.

Just received a response on the design questions...

Nick @ Ksport said:
After talking to the engineer we do not weld the tab on the lower mount due to cavity distortion during the welding process. We “unlike most other shocks” use a monotube design where the piston sits directly against the shock wall, and it doesn’t have the cavity like in the twin tube design. They tested a few years ago, and did not find any problem with the strut being able to come out of the cavity if installed properly. As for dyno we can dyno any of the kits for an extra fee after assembly and it can be included with the kit, but we do not have any here to dyno at this time.

Thanks,
Nick J.

Why is it every time I go ove to NECO the site seems to be down

I dunno. Trevor does do a fair amount of maintenance on the site. It's quite responsive when it's up.

If it never went down, I might never get around to checking on things here!
