Contour Supercharger Test subject

will an atx stand up to the load put on it by a supercharger? or will it just melt, snap, crack, just go boom? :p

Assuming it's in good shape already, add a proper stacked plate cooler, keep fresh fluid in it & you should be fine. If you flog the car with 300 HP, you'll toast the tranny no matter how careful you are, but for the occasional romp I don't think there'll be much of a problem.

My Zetec has a leaky seal & takes a few seconds to build pressure in the morning - so that car will get a tranny overhaul before any FI is done. My V-6 is in top shape and maintained regularly so it is ready for anything.

If you haven't found anyone to test with I'd be interested in installing it on my car. Just let me know if I can help out.

emailing him is probably easiest. his supercharger is holding up last i heard and i believe he's still selling them but i know he's only sold a few kits. people just dont want to spend the money when the supercharger costs 2/3 what the cars do nowdays.

I think the kit just needs more publicity, people dont seem to care about dropping 2/3rds the cars price on the turbo kit...

i don't think he's pushing them like he could, i agree. im pretty sure he's barely making anything off the kits, he's giving it as cheap as possible but the biggest problem for his kit is that you have to get it tuned yourself. i dont see it as a problem, because unless you get tom to come tune your car personally so he can tweak the car individually, all your really getting is a base tune, which is way better than no tune at all, and probalby pretty damn close as he's tuned so many cars already (no disrespect to the nautilus boys, dont take that the wrong way!!)

I'm still working on the kit and have been giving more updates on NECO. I haven't tried to sell any yet. I switched to a smaller pulley on my car to increase the boost past 6psi and I'm running into a belt slip issue. I'd like to add an idler to the setup to get some more belt wrap around the pulley. I'm not going to sell a kit with bugs in it. If it was finished I would try and advertise it but at the moment it isn't.

i would have the supercharger over the turbo

turbos have been kinda ricey to me

even a mustang with a turbo is ricey
i know it doesnt take any power to run a turbo to make power
but
superchargers are beautiful
i would give my left nut for one

Give me your left nut, then go install one, and "do a beautiful dig bouncing off the 7k fuel cutoff", okay?

:nonono:

Ricey? are you F**ken retarded? there is nothing rice about a turbo. rice=Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements (spelling) Um. Turbos give you power and are not a cosmetic thing. So Rice is not the word to use. Id keep going but ya already anoyed me enough.....

Why would anyone want your left nut (or any other body part)? On second thought, please don’t answer that.

Turbos are an elegant, sophisticated and comprehensive way to increase engine output. Treating the engine as the air pump it is. Working with its inherent qualities.

A well-engineered turbocharger system is about as far from "rice" as you can get.

Sorry to say it, but your comments mark you as a glossy magazine type car enthusiast - way more interested in appearance than substance. I’m sure you have very limited experience working with engines.

No matter. This is a hobby with rich opportunities to learn. Stick with appearance mods if that’s what you like and always be careful with any mechanical mods – seek help if you are unsure!

*********************************************************

Just to say it, my crazy work schedule is finally paying off. I’m near the end of a long hard road. It almost seems incidental at this point, but I’m looking at three patents, one I’m sure of and two possible. Intellectual property is a big deal at the company I work for. True 12 to 14 hour days – I know Warmonger and others here understand that.

I’m so damn tired of technology right now. The older I get the less actual fun I have. I pulled the cover off one of my SVT’s yesterday and started it up (battery was completely dead). The car just feels like a natural fit. All those parts sitting in boxes are calling to me again. I’ve decided this is the year I put the car together… or I give up trying to find a block of time and instead find someone trustworthy to assemble it for me. Or I could simply have one hell of a Contour SVT garage sale!

A true 400+ FWHP and nearly stock looking low mileage tropic green SVT Contour. The best of what is, or used to be, available for these cars. One of a kind. I’ve put a lot of thought into this car, spent a lot of money (for a contour) and not done one bit of actual work.

Compared to past car projects, this one seemed so relatively simple… Engine, transmission, suspension and brake swap. Remove everything mechanical on the car and reassemble with well thought out and tested high performance parts/kits. No repairs, no restoration, and no bodywork. Basically starting at a point where it’s taken me a year or more of work to reach with older hobby cars I’ve owned.

Dreams and schemes.

Waiting for a tensioner pulley bracket to be finished which will hopefully solve all my problems. After that I should be able to get above 6psi finally. :)
