Cooling Fan Issues

I have a 2000 Contour SVT and I'm having cooling fan issues.

I don't have any fans at all High or Low, with a/c or without, when the car gets above 225F still nothing. I have turned the fans on via jumping them at the relay's in the fuse box under the hood. They both will come on when I jumper either one of them. I changed the temp senor for the PCU because it ohmed out at less then 27k ohms at 68f. I have ohmed out the resistor on the lower drivers side of the fans and it ohmed out at 3k. So it seemed to be fine. The only thing left I was going to check was to make sure the wire from the relay's to the PCU are still connected. When I check the pin config against my book they are not the same? Does anyone have a pin config chart for a 2000 Contour SVT that I can look at? The one in my Haynes book does not match what is in the car. Is there anything else I should check? I have been searching through old archives but no luck. Everyone seems to figure out there problem before I can fix mine. Thanks in advance I hope you guy's can help me.

I have 99 wiring diagrams, and I believe that 2000 is remarkably similar.

Both fans will run when either relay is energized. Low speed runs the fans through the dropping resistor, which is probably sub-One Ohm. High speed bypasses the dropping resistor.

If you got the fans to run by jumping the relay contacts, then I would be suspicious that the relay coils aren't getting switched +12V from the PCM power relay. If you have a meter, this could be checked by pulling the relays and reading the coil contacts as the ignition is switched on and off. If you don't find +12V on either Green/White or Green/Blue under the fuse/relay box, it's time to trace wiring. The other side of the relay coil goes to the PCM, which pulls it to ground to energize the relay coil.

Cooling Fan Issues

Sorry for bringing up an old thread but I have been helping Rob on this car.We have checked the relays, checked the fans to make sure they work. All the relayshave power and the wires to the fan works because we jumped them both and theycome on. I checked to make sure the wire to the PCM is good and we have continuityto the connector at the fire wall. We replaced the sensor and I checked thewiring for that also it's all good. Everything seems to be in place but the PCMis still not telling the fans to turn on. The low fan resistor is working becausethe low speed fan runs slower than the High speed. Any ideas know? From allthat I have done I guessing it’s the PCM but we don't want to spend $300 for anew one. Any help would help.

My fans would stay on all the time for some reason, then they turned off and never came back on and one fan locked up......so i bought a cooling fan relay with thermostat sensor it will make the fans come on at 200 deg and shut off at 185 i guess its a sub unit that doesnt use the pcm ....i took the easy way out lol

Iceman and Rob - my '95 SE Contour is having the SAME EXACT issues. Down to the "T"!

If it's as simple as swapping the computer out, that would be awesome. BTW, a replacement computer should run you anywhere from $30-$100, no more than that. Shoot, someone might even give you one for free on this site, you never know ;).

Here is the thread I had, still with no resolution :(

I had the exact problem, although my resistor was bad, but after replacing it I still wasnt getting fans. Swapped out the computer and problem solved.

Hey Blu Fuz I checked out a couple of places the 2000 SVT Pcm is over 300 bucks. FYI
No one had one in stock either. I will pm Troll to see if he has a 2000 SVT pcm.

I'm tempted to swap my computer too, just to eliminate that as a variable..... Now I just have to find a '95 V6 MTX "NUN3" computer .
