Help designing sound system

I forgot how to tell you how to set the gains with a dmm.

Step 1- acquire a 50-60hz test tone ( I provided a website above)

Step 2- determine the rms and ohm load you wish to run. IIRC your amp will do 150w rms at 4 ohms.

Step 3- Find the corresponding voltage, following the chart: http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j23/steveo200077/RMSchart.jpg

Yours is 24.49v

Step 4- attach the leads of the dmm to the speaker terminals (with the sub still connected)

Step 5- Turn your headunit up to 3/4 volume or where your door speakers begin to distort, turn off all bass boost and eq filters

Step 6- Turn up the gain until you match the number you need as close as possible (in your case 24.49)

That should be it

theres instructions with the chart at the bottom

The test tones are sampled in 0dB, most music is recorded less than this (< -3dB) so it yields a somewhat conservative setting.

Custom fiberglass amp rack done. Next is the sub corner box.

Very Nice!!! Have to post up pics of the Dutchman's new system. Carpeted the spare tire well, and put both amps down there. Turned out pretty cool, IMO.

So by going with the corner sub design, will you keep the box sealed? It'd be easy to glass in a piece of pvc pipe in there for a port ;) . I'm just saying this because all Boston Acoustic subs love being in ported boxes. I've heard just about every level of their current subs with the exception of the new G2-15 and G3 series.

Im really on the edge about that. Ive thought about porting, because it is a simple hole. Shouldnt be too hard. How big should the hole be?

3inch pvc requires a 3.5inch cutout

The hardest part would be calculating the volume of airspace because the shape isn't a standard geometric shape.

Kevin, that is cool. If I had known you could do fiberglass, I would have had you do one for the Dutchman, lol.

Never haha. This is my first and only corner sub box. What a pain in the ass haha. I like fiberglass and all, but doing it in the trunk was aweful. Car reeked of resin for about a week and a half, it was just a lot of work. Fun, but im never doing it again haha.

haha I tried that once, then i found out my trunk leaked... so my mdf base swelled up and i had to throw the fdamn thing out.. waste of like 50-60 bucks for the amount of stuff i used.... but then i got 2 12's anyway so made a larger fiberglass box....

I also finally got around to installing my 4 channel amp yesterday... sounds so much crisper now.

A little update on the box. One more layer of glass then it will be ready to carpet. Complete system should be installed and running by next weekend.

If you fill the enclosure with polyfill you will get a little bit better low end extension. Keep the gain down on the sub to allow it to break in, you need to give the suspension time to soften and get used to moving and avoid beating on it for 2-3weeks. Very clean install for a first timer. I want to move my amp so I can fire into the cabin for spl competitions but idk where else I'd put it.

Thank you, and thanks for all the help. No way things would have come together as they have without the help.

Gain is set at min, and I havent really opened it up yet, but even so, it still bumps hard :D Door speakers are going in tonight.
