Last thursday on the way home my car started to feel like it would not come out of second gear and there was a slight clicking noise coming from the engine bay, then it started stalling at stop lights. My only recourse localwas the ford dealership. They told me the usual $70 diagnostic fee and I got a ride home from a friend. I got a call the next afternoon to tell me it was the timing belt, tensioner and valve cover. That would $550, and I agreed to have it replaced.

I waited until monday and left a voicemail. A couple hours later I got a response back saying that they order a new serpentine belt and other misc parts for me (without authorization). They called me back about a half an hour later with a quote of $260.

It's one week later and after many voicemails they haven't responded to I contacted the service manager. After complaining to him for about a minute or two he put me on hold and the woman I have been dealing with the whole time picked up the phone and told me the last part just came in today. She added to my happiness by saying that it *should* be done by tommorrow. My response was "So it's possible?" "Possibly".

At this point I'm pissed so I just called ford customer relations and logged a complaint with the dealership. I am told my complaint will be forwarded to the "customer relations manager".

Long story short:

My car has been sitting for 1 week.
No/slow response to voicemails.
They seem to be ordering parts without authoirziation
I'm 21, Am I ever going to buy a ford car again?
I am stuck with a $30/day rental car on a tight budget

Well hello there stranger. :)
I'm sorry that you are having problems!

$260 is definitely better than $550, for sure. Hopefully they will have it done tomorrow for you.

Most of us here would be more than happy to help you out with your car if needed.
Keep us posted.
And...
Don't be a stranger!!!

I was wondering about that. If that's the case, that really bites. :(

i tihnk he means $260 on top of the $550.

You got that right.

Sorry for being a stranger ;)

So I'm looking at:

$70 diagnostic fee
$550 timing belt +
$260 serpentine belt +
$180 for the rental car (if it goes back today)

Did I mention the car 130k miles on it now?

Try to think of it this way, you won't have to worry about those items for a while.
Bummer!
When it gets a bit warmer out we are planning a get together to do some maintenance on the cars. If you need some stuff done (fluid changes, etc), check in once and a while or PM me your number so we can get in touch with you.

It sucks if it costs all that $$$ :( . My only question is , if they're replacing the timing belt , the R&R of the serpentine belt is part of THAT job , so the only extra cost incurred on changing the serpentine belt should be the cost of the belt - probably about $20 (and a couple minutes of work) . I'd definately question them about this fact BEFORE you pay them $260 for them to change a serpentine belt on a Zetec ...

I believe their justification on that part would be that they ordered the serpentine belt serperately and installed it, probably yesterday. It doesn't mean I won't fight with them about it a little bit.

If that's the case , it's not YOUR fault that THEY mis-diagnosed the issue ! And it should never cost that much for a serpentine belt & install on one of these cars ... never . DEFINATELY fight with them on the issue .

Oh yes, insist on a price adjustment on this one.

When is the car supposed to be finished?

I'm sorry to hear that. I live near that dealership, but have only used them to get a key copied and to order a piece of weatherstripping. For service, I use the Firestone down the street. Dealerships in general scare me when it comes to service.

I dealt with them once. Terrible experience. My car kept throwing a cel. They misordered the part 3 times. Wasted a week of time running my car back and forth. Idiots.

They don't sound like a very good dealership at all. :(

Where's Xoom? We need an update!!
