I know someone knows - interior color

I have been looking for a paint color for the instrument, dash, and console bezels. As you know they are (stock) either black or a color refered to as "gunmetal gray". That is what I am looking for. I spent some time at a Ford dealer that looked up some parts and found reference to the color, but not a Ford part/color number for it. He even checked with his body shop and they came up empty too.

Anyone know more about this color and maybe where I can get it in a spray can?

Thanks.

Some auto paint stores might have a reference for the color you need. Check your local yellow pages and see if you have one nearby and give them a call. My local auto paint store has been a great resource for me on exterior and interior paint - matching colors, loading paint in aerosol cans, etc. Good luck.

In every 98+ I have seen, the bezels have all been black. The pre-98s seem to have a slightly grey/silverish tint to them. Personally, I'd just go with whatever color contrasts and looks the best with your interior color. My suggestion would be to find a satin finish paint, rather than a gloss. Glossy paint wouldn't look right, and you'd have some possiblilty of light being reflected into your eyes in bright sunlight. I don't know how much trouble you'd have finding a satin finish spray paint though.

Ok so here is the deal, I like the way my interior looks stock as it is. I'm an old guy and it's my Brides car. What is important is she likes it. I keep trying to fancy it up for her like adding the tilt column, leather seats, and the power windows were so she could open the rear window so the dog could sitck his head out and ride like a dog :) (it really is all about him)

I have seen quite a few Tours in the junk yards now and I find that 95-97 trims come in gunmetal or black. All of the 98-00 I've seen are black unless they have been painted.

On my instrument bezel where the fog lamp indicator, traction control, defroster switch, clock, and various screw covers / blank caps are those pieces are not a consistant color. The instrument bezel, HVAC bezel, shifter bezel are all uniform.

I am trying to find more info on that gunmetal gray color so I can get it all looking right. I can't find a ford part number for it. I'm sure you all know that if you contact one of these paint sites and say I need ford #xxxx in a spray can you can get all you want. Whereas if you ask for gunmental gray they just ask for more info and say they don't have it. There is my problem that I'm trying to resolve.

And btw that is pretty much how I painted some of my door parts, and they look good... ;)

Any ideas along those lines?

Thanks for all the in put and if all I get out of this is some conversation then it aint a loss either.

I would think that most, if not all, of those switches and such will come apart from the bezel trim. I'd just take it ALL apart and paint all of it whatever color you want. Ultimately I think you'll spend less time and money doing that, rather than trying to find a match for the existing color.

You are absolutely correct, but where's the adventure in that my friend. When I find out the info and post it then the next guy who just wants to do a bit-o-touch-up won't have all the hassel. Heck it is cold and rainy soon (this is orygun here) so spending a bit of time looking is ok by me :)
