I have seen some interest in a harness bar. We are capable of designing and fabricating a harness bar and/or a roll cage.

You can see what we have done for the SHO here: SHO Source

We will need a test car in the Washington, Vancouver area. The tester will get a very good discount for being the tester.

We can either produce them as a regular item or in a group buy at reduced costs. So who is interested?

Roll Cage... hell yes! My car is torn down to the point where installing one would be easy. Why the hell do you have to be in Washington/Vancouver.

On a side note my buddy is the lead guitar/vocals in a band and they call themselves... "I was in VANCOUVER", Linky if you don't believe me They are a pretty good band though.

The reason why we need 1 person there is so we can make measurements and develop it. Once we do all of that we can make them and ship them. You would only have to install it.

For the cage guys, are you wanting a more basic 4 point kit like we sell for the SHO or do you want a 6 point kit (more difficult to install)?

Mike

The 6 point could be SCCA legal, but a 6 point is significantly more work to install than a 4 point. The 4 point we currently sell for the SHO can be expanded into a SCCA legal 6 or 8 point cage .

Mike

how are you considering the kit for the SHO a 4 point cage? i only see 2 points of install? i would consider that a 2 pt hoop

if you are going for SCCA legal bars im sure the OP knows the specs but for the other people here they are out of this years solo rule book. i think they are the same for road racing, havent checked the GCR though

1. The roll bar hoop and all braces must be of seamless ERW or DOM
mild steel tubing (SAE 1010, 1020, 1025) or equivalent, or alloy steel
tubing (SAE 4130). It is strongly recommended that roll bars not be
constructed of ERW due to quality and strength concerns.

2. The size of tubing to be used shall be determined on the basis of the
weight and speed potential of the car. The following minimum sizes
are required and are based upon the weight of the car without the
driver.
a) Over 1500 lbs – min 1.500” o.d. x 0.120” wall or 1.750” o.d. x 0.095” wall <----contours/cougars
b) Over 1000 lbs – min 1.250” o.d. x 0.090” wall
c) Under 1000 lbs – min 1.000” o.d. x 0.060” wall
Dimensions are nominal. 0.005” variation in wall thickness is allowed.

3. Each mounting plate shall be at least 0.080” thick if welded and 3/16”
(0.188”) thick if bolted. A minimum of 3 bolts per plate is required for
bolted mounting plates.

Our cage builder follows or exceeds the SCCA GCR (rulebook), and has built many full race cages. The cages and 4 point kits are built out of the appropriate size DOM tubing for the weight of the car. He is meticulous to ensure the number and radii of the bends are correct, and his welding skill is incredible. Long story short, any 6 or 8 point cage he builds will be SCCA legal for road racing. If there are any additional requirements for a different sanctioning body, we can meet those requirements as long as you let us know what they are.

A 4 point kit is not legal for SCCA road racing, but it can be added on to create a legal 6 or 8 point kit. In the case of our supercharged SHOs, we decided to create and install the four point kits for use at open track days for the following reasons:

1) I realized my wife (the race driver) was hitting 150+ on the front straight before the brake zone
2) The 4 point kit will give some rollover protection, but still allows you to get in the car more easily (no door bars)
3) The 4 point kit gives you an excellent anchor point for the 6 point racing harness and racing seat so we can use a HANS device

To answer where the 4 point are:

1) The kit comes with the main hoop preassembled and installs to the unibody close to where the B-pillar meets rocker panels and floor (it does not attach just to the floor) - this is 2 points
2) The second two points are the rear braces that are precut to fit between the main hoop and the rear strut tower tops. These two tubes are shipped loose to allow for shipping (and because they need to be welded in place as you could not get a fully assembled kit through the doors) - this is the other two points.

Most of our kits have straight rear tubes because that is required for a legal 6 or 8 point cage. The straight tubes limit access to the rear seat, but we also do not recommend people sitting in the rear seat with a cage because they could injure themselves on the cage in an accident.

A harness bar is a single horizontal bar that mounts between the B-pillars to allow for mounting shoulder harnesses. Many harness bars are removable on street cars, and we can look at making ours this style. Personally, we prefer the 4 point kit as a minimum since it is much stronger and safer.

A link to our SHO 4 point kit is found here

http://shosource.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=61_7_14&products_id=124 I do see that the picture only shows the main hoop, but the complete kit also includes the rear tubes.

Please let me know if there are other questions I can answer.

Thanks

Mike

personally for my svt im not going to have people in the back of it so a 4-6 point cage will be nice.

as for a harness bar i would also be interested in that if no one wants a cage. tho i wouldnt want to sit in the back and wack my head off of it incase of a collision.

The reason why we need 1 person there is so we can make measurements and develop it. Once we do all of that we can make them and ship them. You would only have to install it.

 I knew why you needed one person in the area, I was making the comment more along the lines of why do you have to be so far away from where I live.

I'm also down for either the harness bar/2 point hoop or the roll cage, depending on the design and how it would install. As I'm debating about whether I still would want my rear seat to be functional. I mean this is a 4 door car... if this was my Camaro I wouldn't think twice as the rear seat is useless anyway.

Mike will give some prices. WHat are you interested in? The Harness bar?
I'm interested in either the roll bar (4 point, not a cage) or harness bar depending on price, but most likely just the harness bar. Do you have any idea what the ballpark on shipping would be from Vancouver to the Midwest, and if this does get off the ground what kind of lead time are we talking about? I was trying to push for the other thread to progress since it sounded like delivery would be before track season started, which clearly didn't happen.
