I just got these in from the UK. They are the Mondeo MK1 Morettes (brother of the contour). We all know that these aren't a straight "bolt on" application for the Contour. Another member "Plastique_synthetiX" did this to his pre 98 years ago. He pretty much said that it would be easier to make all new units with fiberglass than to get these to fit on a Contour. It is really one of the last projects I want to try to do for my car. Hopefully I can figure something out.....

My idea is to integrate most of the front of the Morette and round lenses into the rear half of a Contour headlight so it can be a "bolt in" application without modifying the car itself like he did.

Plastique_synthetiX:
you have to cut a small amount from the inner edges of the morettes, you have to completely butcher the header panel and fabricate brackets for it (in order to install the grill and bumper), you will have to trim the front bumper mounting tabs to the limit, you will need to cut holes and trim the frame of the hood, and lastly these won't work with Contour indicator lights. Looking back now, I think it'd have been much easier to just gut the stock headlights, buy the appropriate sized round lights and install them into the stock reflector. The just fiber glass around the round lights (I figure any of these guys who make contoured Sub boxes could do that...).

Here is his Cardomain: http://www.cardomain.com/id/Plastique_synth

I was hoping to have these arrive much sooner to be ready for SZ '12 but that's just not going to happen. Hopefully next years SZ I will have something to show......

Here are some of his installed pictures and he is the only one that I know of that has the MK1 Morettes on his Contour.

people generally make things seem harder than they really are, either to deter others from trying so they can be unique or to just make it seem like they accomplished the near impossible. lol
when i did the post98 front end conversion i was constantaly being told it was too hard or not worth it. was it hard..not really. time consuming...a little. impossible, not at all. you're more than capable of custom body work and trimming, you'll be fine and like most of your work, it'll look tits. good luck!

From what I recall, Plastique_synthetiX also butchered his side panels.

Good luck blu! And if you're able to make this easily reproducible, please consider doing a GB ;)

Thanks ;)

I read that he did a lot of modifications to the car to make these work. The most I will modify on the car is the headlight header panel. Not getting into any metal or cutting of the bumper. I have an extra header panel here to work with and modify. I am really hoping I can pull off the look while retaining the stock factors of the car.

Turboman, "coolest Pre 98 in the world" <------- this is all I ever hoped for

Actually that Contour with the GTP front bumper just had painted headlights or headlight covers with holes in them. They were not Morettes.

I like the different look of the Morettes. I have had my car for so long that I need to do things to make it feel new and fresh again. If it doesn't work out, then at least I know.

The round headlamps just flow nice with the round fogs and the other curves of the car. It will look nice .

Thanks DUDES

If I didn't have some boomboxes to fix up right now I would be diving into this headlight project.......

Good to see that you were able to get a set sent to you finally. Did you end up finding left hand drive or right hand drive lights?

If you can figure out how to install these without cutting the bumper and the hood I will be quite impressed. The problem was that the lights are taller than the stock Pre-98 Contour lights and they install slightly lower than the top of the bumper. As the stock bumper curvature actually sits under the stock headlights, I had to cut the bumper to allow the Morettes to fit.
