My boost build thread

i was installing the remote oil filter plate and had a thought. would it be possible to put a "T" fitting onto the out side of filter relocater and have the SC drain into that? the only thing i can think of that would be bad about it is if the pressure pushed back up into the SC and wouldnt let it drain

or would a "Y" fitting be better so that it wouldnt flow backward up the y branch

no. the oil filter is under pressure. need to drain to the block.

still waiting on a clutch, hope it shows up tomorrow.

wiring harness question. the main harness that i have in the car now is still the 99 return no cruise atx harness from when it was converted. i have a complete harness from a 98 or 99 coug (joe what year was that tour). the current harness does not have a knock sensor, but the other one does. does it really make a difference? the only reason i would be switching harnesses is so that i can finally have back up lights.

so since i dont have the clutch yet i decided to install the fuel pump. the retaining nut for the pump didnt make it, so i have to get a net one of those. but i ran into this problem

the new pump doesnt fit into the retainer. any of the how to's on this dont say anything about this. the other thing is that even if it did fit, the bottom of the pump because the opening is a different size

it seems 99 non-SVT cars, both contour and cougar did not have knock sensor. also with boost I heard it was better to not have it incase it picks up fake knock. I do not have one on my 3L turbo.

as for the fuel pump, just open it up until it will fit.

Yup, you'll need to bend the pump holder open a bit to get it to fit and then bend it back as good as you can when finished. You will probably want to run a zip tie or two around it to hold it to the holder when finished.

could i have the harness and just not hook up the knock sensor?

good on the pump, i have a tendency to bend and cut to fit, but i didnt want to do that with the pump, its kinda important

i decided to install the fuel pump.... but i ran into this problem....
i took my walbro back out today to check why it sucks up air when the tank fuel level falls below a quarter. Do you have a rectangular filter ? Can I ask which way round you are pointing the filter ? ...G.

it did come with a rectangular filter. if you are on the trunk side of the car it is pointed to 3 or 4 o'clock.

the ups man was kind enough to deliver me the proper clutch today. got that installed, and got the trans reacquainted with the motor

thanks for that. I turned mine round to 9 O'clock... went for a blast and all seems ok. If it gives me any more grief, i may try to modify the original L shaped filter. ...G.

on the outlet pipe im going to have to use a 2.5-3" coupler. i have a hose techniques coupler that will work, but is there a specific material that i need to use since it will be under pressure

as long as its mutli-ply reinforced silicone you will be fine. the single ply couplers like what is on most standard intakes expand to much and will blow off.

they have the nickel coating on them. i have msds headers on my other coug, and when i pulled the motor to do the trans swap they were still shiny after 4 or 5 yrs and 100k miles. the car doesnt see a lot of road time so im not really concerned with it

of course there are no part numbers on it. on the web is says it measures 9.5", the invoice says 9" and it measures 8.5".

oooh you had me worried there for a minute. I went down and measured mine and thankfully it measured 9.5"

i did get the correct one, just havent uploaded the pics yet. looking to get the motor back in on sunday

got some work done today. had to go look at a condo for my MIL and then when i got back i tweaked my knee so that ended the fun.

here is the installed fuel pump

cut the outlet pipe to match the angle, just need to add an inch of pipe for everything to fit right

since i dont have the egr hooked up i can that nub of a pipe off and weld it up?

ok motor is ready to go back in on sat. i just need to put the wiring harness on. never got answered the first time round so ill ask again. is is possible to run a wiring harness with a knock sensor on it and just not hook the sensor up or to bypass it?
