My custom 3.5" cold air intake

yes they are. thats EXACTALY how they are run,and setup in the probe's,if you look at them from the front you'll see the bottom of the filter sticking out.

I have a similar setup, by my filter sits just on top of my sub frame. This location seems much less susceptible to deep puddles and other road hazards.

curious...why doesn't anyone try an external point..ie hood scoop, or any other place other than a couple inches from a 200+ degree engine?? am i missing something or is it just that people don't wanna f-up their hood? i am thinking about fabricating my own hood scoop simplily for the cooler air and the ram-air effect. please if i'm wrong or fix'n to f-up my car let me know how and why!

I thought seriously about putting a hood scoop on but the hood has a wierd Contour(ha ha) that would be hard to make a scoop flush with and also, the smallest scoop I could find was 13 inches wide and $70.

If you look at mine, You will see that my filter is basically outside the car. I'm just going to put up a box around it.

the scoop idea i'm thinking of is basically to have a short air ram to the air box lid(with K&N filter) and flip the lid upside down so it meets the hood(and seal it to the hood somehow) and then cut a hole through the hood and fabricate my own small scoop right over the filter...if all goes well do you think this will work?

Thats exactly what I was looking at doing except I was going to make some kind of duct to prevent excessive water from entering into the air box. It is also very difficult to 'fabricate' your own hood scoop without it looking like total :censored::censored::censored::censored:.

Having the scoop feed a pipe to the air box and make it so its not directly facing the filter so any water that goes in the scoop will settle in the box then put a drain hole in the bottom or something.

wouldn't that ruin the whole ram air idea?

not really so long as the box is sealed against the hood because it would still be pressurized.

not if you put a hole in it...mabey if it just had a place to catch the water and you could drain it after a rain...really shudn't get that much in it i wudn't think
