Picked up a 2010 Speed 3

My buddy Derek who's posted here in this thread just did a K&N typhoon intake and said it really woke the car up! K&N's website says about 25 hp, probably not whp but somewhere else I read that the same intake on a MS6 netted 10-12 AWHP, a noticeable improvement I'd say:shrug:

Once again those wheels look awesome, hope Vince takes care of you on those centercap decals too, he can do acrylic domed as well as straight decal, whatever you want. He does good work and Hectour went through this guy for a massive old school Mazda group buy, everything went very smoothly. If you read this Hectour, post that pic of your table for the group buy:crazy:

I can't wait to do some mods on the MS3. Thanks for the comments regarding the intake kit. I'm dying to install one and a turbo inlet pipe. :)

I get a lot of positive comments on the wheels, again, it was a last minute decision to go with the Konigs but it was the right decision.

Thanks for the reminder about the decals. I have been so busy at work , I completely forgot to contact Vince.

Intake, turbo intlet pipe, rear motor mount, and a short throw plate or shifter should be the first mods. They transform the car!

SRI is ususally the better option: easier to install, less parts, etc. In the Mazdaspeed 3 there aren't any real advantages from a SRI to a CAI, or vise versa.

It appears the SRIs are generally cheaper too. I'm looking to see which brand carries a heat shield, so far, only saw K&N with the heat shield. Maybe that won't matter?

I run a CPE Nano without a heatshield and notice no ill effects being in the engine bay. Derek did say he did some research and the K&N has the least complaints and issues.

I don't have a MS3 but Hectour installed my K&N typhoon on my Honda Fit 20k ago and I've had NO problems....ever! K&N delivers quality AND performance w/o any problems in the CEL department!

CAI you have to consider hydro lock since Mazda leaves the fender well vented, on the MS6 anyways. I cut up a bright red Ace hardware bucket and put it over through filter to block the back. Hydro lock is no fun. A dude brought a MK4 Jetta to my job for an oil change after he went through a big puddle. I was like lol no. It died in the parking lot and never started again; with that engine anyway.

Your the boss there Eric, did you buy the car from him, you never know if you wanna re-visit your 3rd Dragon Slayer. My vote Chris is the K&N or CP-E.

Hector and I just put the the Sure Motorsports Aeros SRI and TIP on and it's fantastic. They don't make the CP-E Nano anymore, and the Sure MS is almost a direct replacement. It's $189, which is cheap than the CP-E was. It's loud and you can hear the stock BOV too, though that's like all of the other ones.

We also added the James Barone Racing short shifter plate, weight, shifter bushings, heavy shift knob (465 gram), and dogbone style rear motor mount. He's got two styles of RMMs, and the dogbone adds a decent amount of vibration, but it makes the car act and respond so much better. The SSP and heavy shifter knob makes shifts so much better.

The best part is all of that was only about $450. Both of these companies have gen I and gen II specific part on offer, so make sure you order the right parts. I know people were having problems with the Sure MS SRI from the gen I on the gen II (before they had a separate product). They had to revise the air straightener for the gen IIs.

I'm already in discussion with one of my supplier regarding the SURE Motorsports intake and turbo inlet pipe. I'll have to review the James Baron Racing parts, sounds interesting. I was originally thinking to go with TWM but it's good to know there are options. :)

I have the James Barone shift knob, shift plate, and bushings. LOVE it! Great prices too.

I have the TRZ motor/trans mounts. Seriously makes the car sound like a race car with the vibrations to boot. Not for everyone.

Having seen the SURE intake, it is a quality piece. If I was in the market for one, this would be the intake I would get!

I'm liking the James Barone parts. :)

I'm not keen on vibration so I may just do a rear mount only. I'm sure I'm going with SURE. :D
