Why not take a page out of the Volkswagen communitys book and do a mid mounted rwd duratec, i think it would end up being alot easier..... mount a new front subframe to the rear, motor and trans, two front coil overs etc. The roof / trunkline might pose a problem but i mean.... you're already putting motor in the rear of the car, whats that going to stop you ;)

Just like the SHOgun.

However, I think the Cougar would be a better candidate because you will be losing the rear seats.

Not everyone is a fan of the cougar styling. Id much prefer to see it happen in an SVT. And as far as I know, people were putting VR6's into the back of corrados way before the Shogun
 
I honestly love the styling and design of the Contour to consider a project like this someday. Me personally, I would rather have something custom and rediculous like thet than any other supercar. And for that it would be worth the big bucks pricetag.

I'm thinking all tube chassis, engine out of a ford lightning/GT supercharged to 550/600 hp. even better would be to use the ford GT powertrain mounted in the back like the Ford Five Hundred GT-R project

This is a really entertaining thread. I'll make some popcorn before I open it next time.

It's only a matter of time before someone cuts out the floorpan and firewall on a Contour and mates it up to something that will accomodate a V8 with rear wheel drive. Someone with more time and money than me.

I would like to have a ride in it when it does happen though.

Years ago there was a Chevelle in the Bakersfield area running around with a World War II surplus Allison V12 Aircraft engine installed. I can't say that the engine was under the hood because it took up the underhood area and the first row of seating. The driver sat it what was once the rear seat.

I would have liked a ride in that too.
 
that FiveHundred with the GT motor was built at Washtenaw Community College where my brother is dual-enrolled in high school...

he was taking some auto mechanics classes and saw it being built.....told me about it and i thought he was lying...crazy...
 
V8, RWD Contour IS possible. Much like a jet-engine powered car is possible. It's not easy or cheap, as has been said previously. I think we'll see such a project done here by the time all the 'Tours are scrapped permanently.

However, my initial reading of this post made me wonder if he was going to power his 302ci Tour with plasma...

All I want to know is how and the hell does a community college get the money to buy a Ford GT and a Ford Fivehundred and then cut the **** out of them and make one car??? Am I the only one confused by this??

Oh and the RWD big engine thing has already been done on a flipping Euro Escort. I have the link saved on my other computer I'll post it in a bit. The guy pretty much had to weld in a new subframe and demolish the firewall to make a tunnel for the trans. It could be done on a Contour as well. However it would cost a helluva lot of money and a ****load of time. This will probably never get completed unless someone picks up a Contour for dirt cheap and then has the resources to modify it as needed.

If the car was worthwhile to do this on someone would have already spent the money to do it. Hell if a guy is willing to spend 55k to have a C5 chasis/powertrain retrofitted to fit his 67 Camaro RS/SS then a chasis/powertrain from a Cobra could be retrofitted to a Contour.
 
Alright here is the link for the RS Escort project, which was posted back on the old forums a long time ago. The guy installed a Duratec and made it RWD, and the project is still going on today.

What is the differences in the focus and the tour structurally? The focus has had several different v8 and rwd swaps...

That guy - Scort - Is only 24 miles away from me but an attempt to contact ended with no reply as to a visit. Will be trying again so will see about some pics. Looks good and would love to go out in it as i bet it will fly.

Pretty much the same setup as a Noble M12 which is breathtakingly quick. :laugh:
