saw my first challenger srt-8 thurs.

This will make you feel even better, my other friend has an 08 Mustang GT and he is always in a dead heat with my other friend's SRT8 Challenger...lol

Pete, it takes the Charger SRT-8 to beat the Mustang GT in the quarter mile by .2 of a second. So we're talking 1L and change higher displacement and what, an additional 400hp?

One of the car rags did a comparison between the Challenger and a GT500.But performance-wise, they were pretty even. Which makes the Challenger that much more impressive considering it's capable of keeping up with a car that's a lot smaller and more powerful.

so it's even with Mustang GT and even with the GT500?? which one is it

Read the middle quote again... Charger SRT-8, not Challenger. :)

I'm only going on what the car mag said in their comparison between the Challenger and the GT500. A fair comparison, given the price tag being pretty equal.

What, I thought they only have SRT-8s available, unless they have lesser models for car reviewers to rag. But why give them a lesser car then what the public gets?

The GT-500 is faster than both. An extra ~65hp in a car that is lighter than both, with a much better transmission

SRT-8 was for '08 only. '09 brings other "base" models with the SRT-8 still available.

The Challenger is one of the best looking new cars to come along in a while. Someone said earlier that it may be the best take on the retro style yet... I think it's a close 2nd on the Mustang.

Despite what the performance numbers are vs. the GT500, I'd still rock a Challenger. The interior is amazing in the SRT-8, IMO.

yup I mentioned that. They did a good job catching the retro look with the challenger, ie it actually looks like the original, much as the new mustang does but the charger doesn't at all.

I would put it a close 2nd to the mustang in retro looks also ... but my bias is to the mustang of course

and from a roll, a turbo 3L contour is going to surprise many ...

Ah, that WAS you. :) I agree with the bias... for obvious reasons. Hahahah. The Charger? *vomit* It's four doors. I don't need to say anything else. Though, if someone could shorten one and turn it into a coupe, it might be more interesting.

I don't consider "from a roll" a legit way of determining whether or not one "rapes" another car. I'm not hating on a turbo tour (I'd love to build one eventually), but no real race starts from a roll, IMO.

bias - 66 fastback 289 2+2, 69 Boss 429 and a 06 GT :help:

agreed on all points.

just supporting what bad svt said since he ask anyone that has driven a turbo tour to chime in

Ahhh.... see now THAT'S what I'm talking about!

That looks damn good, IMO. Much better missing those extra doors.

Robin's 66 was a blast to drive. She sold it when I bought mine... and apparently some moron valet royally screwed up the back of it by hitting a cement pole over the weekend. :(

If you tell me that Boss was light blue, black, or red you may have to peel me off of your leg with a pry bar:drool:

not a bad looking charger. i'd still roll with the challenger tho. hey bishop. i understand u're probably a quarter mile nut, but lemmie paint a quick picture for ya, and tell me what u would do in this instance... u're cruising down the street at 35mph, normal speed limit. a guy with a stang thinks he's the shiz pulls up and starts taunting u. what do u do? will u be such a stickler for 'from zero starts' that u wait till u get to the next available light? or would u rape him right there n then in front of others like i put it b4? just curious...

If I'm driving an SVT Contour (NA or not), and someone in a Mustang comes up to challenge me, I'd laugh my ass off at them considering they feel the need to prove themselves all badass by challenging a 4-door grocery getter. I don't have to prove anything to them, and my manhood remains in tact, regardless of whether or not I can "take them."

It's not just a quarter mile thing, though. I don't see two cars as really competing unless they're going from start to finish on equal terms. The rest is all bs, IMO.

i feel the same way also. but the thing u fail to realize is that there are only two ways a race with most cars against a 3l turbo ends...
1) from zero, the svt lacks at takeoff and eventually catches up and passes. the other looses.
2) from rolling, the other car gets killed. still a loss for the other car.

besides, unless u're 50yrs of age or older, u cant tell me u derive no fun in embarassing someone who assumes he can smoke u just cos u drive a "grocery getter". granted, after so many races, u dont even bother anymore, but cmon.:) thats gatta be fun right?

If you're going 3l turbo against a stock, non-modified car, sure. That's how it'll end. I guess I'm just a purist when it comes to racing, that I don't agree with it being legit unless both cars have gone from a complete stop, track or not.

Does he deserve to be embarrassed? Sure, of course. You never assume you can take someone unless you've got the real numbers to back it up.

You know, it's funny... I had more people challenge me when I drove the SVT. Now, I get nods of appreciation and admiration in the '07 GT. :)
