The Progress Thread for the Cooler Zetec

That's the whole point of what I said - I took the argument to an extreme and showed how it breaks down. "You shouldn't make fun of someone else's car...well...unless it's really ugly."

It's not taking it to an extreme. It's focusing on ONE thing that he did to the car, and applying the same criticism of that ONE thing to the entirety of work that he has done/is doing to the car, then somehow lumping it all together into one barely cohesive argument based on the fact that it's a 4-cylinder car.

I've got no doubt, that if he had the money, time, and ability, he'd have done far more performance modification to it. So he can't, and he's making it look good (in his opinion) w/out ruining the car, a la the craptastic Civic you posted.

Now, if he had done all the performance work, and started gluing cardboard "body kits" to it and started painting it with latex paint and a roller, that'd be another story. But he's not. He's doing what he can.

Personally, I'd attempt to turbo the crap out of the Zetec, swap the suspension (which he's already doing), and play around that way. Assuming of course that I had the time, money, and ability. But that's just me.

At least he's tried to do something a little different. He took his lumps for it already.

Therein lies the problem. The OP is deluded, and a bunch of congratulatory bull:censored: isn't going to help any.
Deluded? I think not, sir!

I think "enthusiastic" describes it better.

This is the Contour Enthusiast Group, no?

Are you an enthusiast of all Contours and Mystiques?
No?
Then why are you here?
Perfect reply. If you were into Mustangs, you'd be saying this about Contours, PurpleMystique:nonono:

Comparing me to this car is apples to oranges. I have not tried to make my modifications anything other than what they are. Cheap and simple.
just thought i would divert the grammer and ethics 101 session by saying that my car has the same rake as yours, whats up with the rake? is this normal or are the front struts going out?
Ya, my rear struts were replaced recently (about 1.5 years ago), while the front struts are original. They will all be replaced soon (see box of Konis in OP)
I can't see the picture at work. but based on the discription given how do we know it wasn't done as a joke?

also I don't care for hondas. what most people do with them I don't care for. But I don't go running around putting them down. but at the same time if I see one well done it will get my respect.
I feel the same way. I hate Hondas, but if one is done well, I give credit where credit is due.
OH MY GOD EVERYBODY STOP NOW.

Seriously. No one gave me a bunch of crap in MY Zetec progress thread, so why are you bashing wannabe? Jesus.
I appreciate this.
I've been in the same position, and it's possible NOT to do stupid things to a car.
What, you've never tried something and it didn't work out?

That has just happened a couple of times in a row with this car, and the first problem was fixed. The second, (my appparently abominable change to the "ford" oval...) will be fixed once I send an MO to Parkedcar.

This is where it gets rediculous.

I will adress the first thing you said, and leave it at that. The other stuff is useless.

1. There is a box of Koni struts in the back of my car. That is by long and far the most expensive thing I have bought for this car. Those were $50. I chose BAT springs to go with them for two reasons.

-They are the most functional spring available for this car. They offer the best compromise between performance and ride quality. This is a DD, I can't lose sight of that for now.

-They were one of two sets available to me. The others are B+G Autobahns, which I decided against because of the severe drop. I would love to see my car dropped well over 2 inches, but that would kill my new Konis, scrape the piss out of my bumpers, and wreck my camber. Plus, the ride would take a dump on me.

My main priority for this car has always been performance. The chickenwire (still want to find a better option, will probably paint black for now:laugh:) and taillight tint were made available to me for $14 total. The grille was an experiment, the lights look good. What's wrong with that?

What Brapple, Turbo Fox, Striker2, Zorrex, LauraSVT, bishop375, and Rouar (look at the list of who just argued with you. They're always right:laugh:) are tryin gto tell you is this. You can disagree, you can say it. But why do you have to insult in the process? What positive can possibly come from that?

I'm not hurt, I expect negatives when I put things up for open discussion, I'm just surprised. Why was this necessary? I was excited about probably the best pics I've ever taken, and the fact that my Konis finally arrived. What's the bad in that? The fact that I don;t drive a fast car? Well, there's a way around that problem... By not pretending it's fast, and making it handle well. Hell, one of the beat drift/autocross platforms in the world is the Toyota AE85/86. That's a cheap car that also happens to be slow. Who'da thunk it?

What is the big deal with Koni's/BAT? Heck, it's WAY better than what I did to my car...OEM/Moog. (although my stuff was brand spanking new...)

Huh? Was that directed towards me?

If it was, I'm just excited to finally mod this car after watching it stay constant for almost ten years:laugh:

Of course not!

haha, j/k. reread the post:cool:

Hahah. Thanks, man. I was just pullin your leg. ;)

Did you ever look at your camera for the white balance settings? I think it'd really help the pictures you posted before.

To be honest, you've got my favorite body style and color for the Contours. Pre- 98 and T-Red. Damn good combo.

My only mod suggestion is akin to what Matt did - throw some of the MNB interior in, but keep that center console.

Then how can you say what he's doing is a waste?

No, you did take a single aspect of function into account - performance. I can try any aspect I want and it still works? Okay, find me five different cars that can carry five people plus luggage, run 14s in the quarter, get 30mpg, have easily available parts, look decent, have 50k or less on the engine, and can be had for under 5 grand. I really doubt that's even possible.

That's why I drive a Contour. Not because it's particularly good at any one thing, but it's extremely well-rounded. Obviously you can find cars that do each thing much better, but that's not the point.

That's the whole point of what I said - I took the argument to an extreme and showed how it breaks down. "You shouldn't make fun of someone else's car...well...unless it's really ugly."

I've been in the same position, and it's possible NOT to do stupid things to a car.

oh man all you do is twist words.
i noticed you conveniently left out any response this part:Besides, the fact that you were the one to criticize the engine/transmission would limit the comparisons to performance anyway, since the only thing a duratec/mtx would do better is acceleration.

first, an svt will not run 14's with a stock engine, more like 15's, second a stock svt or a 3l will not get 30 mpg, more like 25-27.

and a fox body mustang does all of those things. I bought mine for $4500, drove myself and 4 friends to the track, brought my toolbox in the hatch, and ran 14's in the quarter mile, and got 22 mpg on the way there. Plus parts are way more available for that car. infact, there are companies reproducing every part for a 5.0L mustang.

how my friends focus sedan. He paid $2000 for it, put a $2500 supercharger on it, and some suspension modifications. It blows my 3L svt away, and got 39 mpg on a trip to an on track event. guess what a ZETEC!!!

My 2.5 SVT was very capable of 30+mpg. Plenty of 3.0s are as well, and a 3.0 will run 14s.

I'm not sure where you learned math, but 22 isn't equal to 30.

Well, my point is completely lost on you. I never said a car like that doesn't exist. It was fun going on like this for a while but honestly the lack of comprehension I'm seeing is sad.

What would I be saying about Contours? And don't try and tell me what I would or would not do.

Comparing me to this car is apples to oranges. I have not tried to make my modifications anything other than what they are. Cheap and simple.

Get over yourself, I wasn't comparing your car to anything.

I feel the same way. I hate Hondas, but if one is done well, I give credit where credit is due.

So do you hate Hondas or poorly modified cars? What if that person put a lot of time and effort into their car? How dare you say they've done anything wrong!

What, you've never tried something and it didn't work out?

Nothing comes to mind.

The problem is that you assume I'm talking about you.

What Brapple, Turbo Fox, Striker2, Zorrex, LauraSVT, and Rouar (look at the list of who just argued with you. They're always right:laugh:)

Because disagreeing with the majority means you're wrong.

The problem is that you assume I'm talking about you.

I think it's a pretty good assumption considering the following -

Therein lies the problem. The OP is deluded, and a bunch of congratulatory bull:censored: isn't going to help any.

Considering wannabe *is* the OP, how could one not assume that you're talking about him?

I have been all show, no go for 7 YEARS!

133hp at the wheels for that long and I only did show mods. I only upgraded because I had to if I wanted to keep the car. He is finally able and willing to mod this pre98 and with performance parts! ;) - I applaud you and it is awesome to get that itch so early in your driving career. I will help however I can, but I am Zetec dumb. I will keep reading this thread so I can learn something I don't know. Good Luck!
