I took a trip up the North Shore on Sunday :)

I've been telling everyone... it sure feels like we are in for one helluva cold winter with tons of snow. I'm thinking back to 1991? when we got pounded on Halloween. It's coming again just you wait.

I sure hope it doesnt by holloween. i still have the Fiero out, and 2 of my snows on the VW are in dire need of replacement. all to be done in november.

EDIT: nice shots tony!

So it's time to change my oil again. I changed mine after 3k last time and was astounded by how dark the oil was. So, I'm wondering if there's maybe a better filter I could throw on this time to extend oil life a bit. Or does everyone on here religiously change their oil every three thousand miles?

Also, any recommendations on oil? I put a 5W30 high mileage mix in this last time, but I'm wondering if I should go to a different viscosity for the winter, and/or a synthetic (for winter and just in general).

Thanks,
Brian

I use Motorcraft filters and oil exclusively. 820S filter and 5w30 synthetic blend.

I also change it every 3-4k in the Cougar (it is always very clean for used oil), and every spring in the SVT (where it basically looks new so I question why I am changing it )

In the Ranger it's another story, I put whatever is cheap in that (still motorcraft filters though). Add a quart at 1500 miles and change it at 2500-3000 because it's usually another quart low

I only go full synthetic in the winter. No need to plug the cars in ever. Never had a car not start once I swapped over either....and I am talking seeing -50F up here. It doesn't seem to really matter what brand I have used either (old svt had supertec and mobil 1....new svt has amsoil....subaru had supertec....solara has valvoline high milage fully synth).

question for the experts

question for the experts

looking for some advise about my sable. its a 2000 with the 3L tec. i have been having my oil pressure light come on at idle (solid) after the engine is at full operating temps. i took the filter off the change the sensor so i did an oil change, i emptied the contents of the filter into a pan to see what i was dealing with the oil had less then 1k miles on it and was durty as hell, then i was bringing it to the garage to dump it when i cought a glimpse of it in the sun, it looked like metalic paint... never did change the sensor. it runs fine no knocks ticks or anything abnormal. i have put a couple hundred miles on it since this problem. my question is what should i do? should i spend 80 bucks for new rod bearings (im broke), 400 for an 04-05 tec, or should i pull the front cover off and check the chain guide bolts (i read that if they come loose they can cause a low oil pressure condition) any thoughts would be helpful! thanks guys

edit: sorry for going off topic with this post lol. i always use napa 5w 30 full synthetic and their gold filters

The oil pickup could be clogged up. You could drop the pan and check it out. I'm guessing if it's clogged it's metal flakes form a bearing though so a new motor would be needed.

I run Motorcraft filters and Mobil1 5000 5w30 and it has been good to me so far. Not to mention my SVT 2.5L puts down some pretty decent power for having just WR headers, WR y-pipe, TruBendz test pipe, and Borla cat-back.
