yup

Ok its been a bad day.

Think the clutch is fried. Symptoms. Tranny shifts fine. Have clutch pressure. Out of gear no sound, in gear slight chatter

I almost let a guy hit me the other day. This nimrod in a Lexus thought he needed to speed up and cut in front of me before the exit, though there was much needed space behind me for him to get over. He started shooting at me in his rear view mirrow with his finger and thumb ya know. We ended up side by side at the stop light ahead. This is where I end my post......

How would one test for that. Found out while in a gear the car will roll then catch if I push and continue, next will try with clutch in

That car had a limited slip right? I'd get it up on ramps and try turning the axle without the wheels being able to spin.

Or you could just look under the car and see if the axles are turning when you have it in gear with the clutch out.

Ok I'll give that a shot., if I can get it up on the ramp :p,

any way after a couple tests.

- clutch in, in gear engine off - car rolls freely
- clutch out, in gear, engine off - car will will roll free, grab a bit, roll free, grab and so forth, I had no issues pushing car during this
- clutch in , in gear, engine on - no sound
- clutch out, in gear, engine on - chatter sound, higher the rev the faster the chater happens.

im coming over tommorrw night to hear the rest of this story lol

Good lord....I hope it isn't the clutch. That was a brand new stock SVT clutch, PP, flywheel and TOB with maybe a couple thousand miles on them when it was sold. It does have a LSD and everything else inside the tranny was completely worked over with about 10-15K miles on them. I am thinking it might be a CV joint as well. Too much new stuff in there for it not to be that. lol. Also LivinSVT said he would rebuild it for cost of parts and shipping if anything does go with it.

Yah I'm going to see if I can get a friend over tonight and maybe we can get her up on jack stands. Cant do to much while its on the ground :p

Yah yesterday I ran the car in gear clutch out. I felt the car rpm drop ever so slightly. My thought is the chater is coming from a section that is still trying to grab the fly wheel but not enough hold to transphere power through causeing it to skip.
What I think happened is when I slammed on the brake (pretty sure I had break in before clutch), then back on the gas hard to avoid the chick in the van started the kill procedure. Basically going from one extreme to another. Then when it happened I took off from a light. When I went for 2nd gear I had nothing but chatter.

Ironic part, clutch gave out at the same intersection that I had avoided the van earlier in the day

Maybe a real LSD, but I doubt that a Torsen or Quaife would. I could be wrong though. Broken clutch wouldn't be so bad either, better than something in the tranny that's for sure.

you are wrong tony. blackcoog called me one day saying that he had a torsen car that was pulling like crazy. got it home and realized it had a broken cv. he could drive it around it just pulled one way like crazy he said.

also, coming from the guy that has broken a number of clutch hubs, also the guy that put that clutch in thinking it wasnt gonna be good enough, i'm pretty certain i'm right on this one. post up pics of the mayhem when you get it apart

Hmmmm. Won't hold a stock one, SPEC is horrible, you killed a clutchnet in no time. What else is there?

TRicker recommended a 6 puck solid hub from clutchnet. But I'm still deciding on what I'm going to grab as I DD it and really take it easy on the car.

I'll grab pictures when we get it out. I am currently hoping that the fly wheel doesn't need to be resurfaced.

This coming up Friday my Contour and I will begin our temporary separation..The car has been my daily driver(100 miles a day) for the past 3 years and will be truly missed. I could get another 100,000 miles out of this motor I am sure, but shes tired and has a handfull of other needs.. I have a fresh lower mile 2.5 ready to go in, but im thinking about going 3.0.

I will be driving the Cobalt back and forth to work and we are picking up a "well kept" '94 Blazer S10 4x4 (from my neighbor) for the wife to drive.
